I did a top 20 for Metal Hammer UK (who I review for) but it may be too 'metal' to actually be included in the magazine... And I can't even remember the rest of my list other than the top 5!

Rotting Christ- Theogonia (CD/LP). A more back to form approach for the Greeks, and probably their best album since "Triarchy". Easily my favorite album from 2007.

Sjenovik- Circle I (demo) and The valley of woe (demo). A new, unknown band that completely blew me away with their unique form of dark death metal mixed with droning doom, industrial, ambiance and black metal in a way that's completely heavy & thick with a deep resonating atmosphere. Any connoisseurs of dark music should seek out these demos as soon as possible.

Ignivomous- Path of Attrition (demo). Band recently signed to NWN! Prod for their full length. Not original in the least, but Ignivomous can still cut an impressive slab of raw death in the old tradition.

ADP- Grey (demo). Another band from Australia, this one playing a more droning doom style with a psychedelic edge. I really enjoyed this tape and will be eager to see what happens next.

Sacriphyx- Lone pine (demo). Yet another Australian bunch, these guys do something that is very close to old Rotting Christ stylistically and vocally. Anthony is a big fan of Cirith Ungol, too.

Wither-s/t (demo). Very dark funeral doom on Obscure Gate Productions. I don’t know much about them other than that I liked this tape for it’s completely dismal aura.

Oaken Throne- Issue #5. This zine is really hard to top right now in the way of aesthetics and journalistic integrity. #5 was a thick little book with the dimensions of a (I want to) 7" EP filled with all sorts of interesting bands.

on all of these "best of 2007" lists, i don't think i've seen anybody mention the grenade album. did anybody like it? i didn't think it was too horrible from what i heard.

My favorite record of the year was REVEREND BIZARRE - SO LONG SUCKERS. Fucking brilliant. I also really liked the Bone Awl, Wold, Witchcraft, Jesu, Electric Wizard, Buried At Sea, Earth, Monarch, Wijlen Wij, Doomsword, Gnaw Their Tongues, Inquisition and Wooden Shjips full lengths. There's lots more, that's just off the top of my head.

As far as reissues went, I was really into the Strid CD, Black Goat LP, Vomit CD, Death Yell, and Neil Young Live @ Massey Hall 1971. I am stoked on getting those Nifelheim reissues too.

I was about to mention the same thing. No Anesthesia came out last year. I don't think many people realize how long WITCHTRAP have been around. It wasn't 'till this year, I think, that they seem to be receiving more attention out here (in the U.S.), I think this is very much due to their myspace page, and then of course, their recent releases through HHR.

Anyway,
I've yet to hear Satan's Cross, however, I'm sure it's killer and most definitely will be one of my favorite releases of the year. I've yet to purchase the new Nifelheim as well Sad

Inquisition's Nefarious Dismal Orations is definitely one of my favorites as well...
