Great release, without a doubt. However, the drums sound way too synthetic to my ear. Difficult to believe that they are performed by the flesh of Polar Maya. Am I being paranoid here or the drums are indeed synthetic? Informed opinions are welcome. Thanks.

I would say yes. But the labelowner is on this forum and you could easily email the band..

They difinitely aren't programmed; the volume and timbre of the hits don't have that uniformity, plus you can really hear the human touch in the looseness of the fills.

Well I wasn't present at the actual recordings but there is no reason to believe they are programmed. I have played around 50-60 concerts with Blackdeath as session live guitarist and the whole band always plays with militant precision - just search on Youtube. Maya plays with along with a metronome, that might be the reason the tempos are not fluctuating but sharp. Then for the album there is also the recording; it wasn't recorded in a shed but in a good studio so all the details are clear and audible. Her own style of playing drums shows very well on the album and you'll recognize it live as well.

This stuff is seriously creative as all hell to me, especially the most recent material. One of the top drummers in my book as well, about as consistent as it gets and there a lot of mixed time signatures, catchy riffs, and oh so maniacal vocals, top notch lyrics [of the ones I've deciphered] - to finish the completely off topic rant, when the fuck is "gift" being put to vinyl...?!

Good band indeed. I still have Saturn Sector on LP and that album is apocalyptic.

Totally agree! "Gift" LP is coming end of May. Testpresses have already been approved, posters and inserts are ready, just waiting for the records and sleeves.

BLACKDEATH - "Gift" LP
6/6/2016 OUT NOW! Blackdeath is the most wellknown band from Russian. "Gift" is their eighth album, the band continues in their own style of disturbed and intense apocalyptic black metal, yet it's their fastest album so far. If you are not familiar with the previous albums like "Phobos" or "Katharsis", expect a very harsh and extreme sound, yet with avantgarde riffs, strange tempos and almost progressive song structures; all performed with razor sharp and militant precision. Blackdeath follows its own path and are among the most dedicated individuals I have ever met.

- All lyrics in German as usual;
- Eighth full length LP from Blackdeath with two additional intro's not on the CD;
- No DMM cutting, better sound;
- Inside out sleeve;
- Includes inlay with lyrics;
- First 100 copies also include a big A2 sized poster;
- Limited to 300 copies;
- Album mastered at Endarker Studio Sweden, dedicated vinyl mastering at Heidens Hart / Tuianti Studio The Netherlands, lacquer cut at The Vinyl Room, The Netherlands, pressing in Belgium.

Yep can't wait for this to get stateside. This band gets better with age. Somehow simply effective and complex at the same time.
