http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/independent-record-company-century-media-in-talks-about-possible-major-label-acquisition/

This could be a good thing...or a big failure.
I know I like several bands on the roster including Marduk, Watain, Sick of It All, Napalm Death, At The Gates and the fantastic back catalog.
I'm old enough to remember the Earache Records/Columbia Records mess. And when Roadrunner was bought by one of the majors they slowly let go of tons of employees and shut down several office locations.

If Century Media had such a good year in 2014, why not keep the good thing to themselves and enjoy it? The big labels are seeing how Metal is doing so well and smell blood...and money to be made.

I think it safe to assume changes will occur. Changes always occur when something gets bought out. (if this buy out occurs)

They are being bought for a certain reason, perhaps interest in a handful of their signed bands which the major see's potential in, and the rest... well the rest will find out in the small print of their contracts or whatever, that they are probably legally allowed to be cut loose etc etc

...or the only change will be internally and the business will remain under the same name and appearance from the outside, just new management etc etc, which in turn could affect the roster perhaps... but only the bands viewed as dead weight, those with potential for sales will be unaffected, but I guess that is how it is even if the label didn't sell itself right?

I thought Nuclear Blast was the owner or something of Century Media anyways, or they have some manner of business association between them at least.

Their employees must be praying against it. With that usually come the lay offs.

Yes, me too. Or is it CM that owns NB?
Can't remember.

They shared office space, nothing more, nothing less.

On this topic, probably won't work out in the end for the bands mentioned previously in the thread. Napalm Death already survived that Earache/Colimbia nonsense. Can't imagine they'd be thrilled with a 2nd go around.

I doubt WEA/SCA is going to make a drastic change to Napalm Death that hasn't already been undergone in some other fashion.

The only Century Media stuff I buy these days are reissues which I'm guessing could be negatively affected by this. I doubt a major label is going to care if people want Demolition Hammer or Asphyx vinyl for example.

Maybe the major labels are realizing that metalheads are the only people still buying music.
