I prefer real Doom, like:

Saint Vitus - Saint Vitus
Trouble - Psalm 9
Pentagram - Relentless
Count Raven - Destruction Of The Void
Reverend Bizarre - In The Rectory Of The Bizarre Reverend
Intern Void - Standing On The Sun
Revelation - Never Comes Silence
Solstice - New Dark Age
Warning - Watching From A Distance
Mirror Of Deception - Foregone
The Gates Of Slumber - Suffer No Guilt
Witchcraft - Witchcraft
Burning Saviours - Hundus
Falls Of The Idols - The Womb Of The Earth
Minotauri - Minotauri

And of course the first 6 Black Sabbath albums, among many others.
I don't consider burning savious and Witchcraft as "real doom".They are good bands though. You should instead list Pagan Altar and Witchfinder General??

Lately I've been listening to Candlemass's "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" nonstop. I think it is my favorite doom album of all time.

I only like Saint Vitus with Reagers. Wino waws ok, but with him SV just turned more into an average doom band, and lost a lot of personality. I just wanna know if I'm alone on this.

Maybe I'm wrong (and I could care less about that), but I never thought of the traditional doom style bands as doom. I really can't get into that music much at all. It sounds too much like hippy rock music or the stoner style stuff to me. In my eyes, doom is about death and darkness, not about drugs, medieval fantasy topics or whatever else.

Ummm, are you sure you like metal music? Razz

I love all those 70s bands, like Pentegram & Bedemon, JPT Scare Band, Groundshaker, Lincoln St. Exit, etc... And of course the 80s groups too, Death SS & Paul Chain, Witchfinder General, Pagan Altar. But I also like the more modern bands too; Witchcraft, Minotauri & Heathen Hoof, Sleep, Church of Misery, Cathedral, Candlemass, Electric Wizard... What I don't understand is why people want to classify all these different bands into doom, traditional doom, doom-death, stoner, sludge, etc? Why do people need all these "genres"? It just leads to shitty formulaic bands and trends...

What are some of those bands like? I know Antonius Rex is one of the guys from Jacula, but I've stayed away 'cause I thought they'd have that crappy, slick sound that a lot of bands have, or that trucker-soul boogie sound (Kyuss/Fu Manchu)...

How 'bout a "Heavy 70s" thread for the early metal fanatics?

Yeah, I fucking love metal. My forte has always centered around stuff in the thrash and death metal genres, though. A lot of my friends listen to a little bit of everything and tried to turn me onto some of those bands in the past, but none of them really grabbed me. If not being a fan means I'm not a true metalhead, oh well.
