Can't really remember with other formats, but the first album I ever bought myself (after asking my father for money) was Winter - Into Darkness on tape back in 1995. Was too young then to fully understand it, but still like it up to now.

Good grief you must be made out of metal:

First vinyl: Diana Ross - Chain Reaction single, Wham - Make it Big LP. I guess this was maybe 1984 or so?

First cassette: maybe Bad - Michael Jackson

First cd: Faith No More - The Real Thing

I bought some stuff before I got into Black/Death Metal but I can't really remember what it was, so here is Black/Death Metal only:

CD: Samael - Blood Ritual (1993)
LP: Enslaved - Frost (1994)
Tape: Anus Preater - Quem Pastores Laudavere (1994 - pre Atanatos, the Thou Art Lord cover on that demo introduced me to Greek Black Metal)

If you’re interested in buying a classic Slayer album, try “South of Heaven” instead, or if you’re into a more modern, melodic appraoch, go for “Diablous In Musica”. Aviod this one.

CD: Metallica's black album in '97 or '98.

LP: Bestial Mockery's Slaying the Life and Nunslaughter's Hex in 2008.

Not sure about tape.

I only remember the CD's.

    Moonspell - Wolfheart
Dark Funeral - The Secrets Of The Black Arts
    Tristitia - One With Darkness

The three of them came at the same time so I have to write them all down. I actually asked for some other CD's (I think 2 of them), but these were 'alternatives', as was common practice back then.

I bought shit before that, but I won't bore you with anything non-metal.
