Which bands do you believe have had an uncompromising attitude towards their music in terms of style, ideology or political persuasion?

Bands that spring to mind are: Angelcorpse, Agnostic Front, Bound for Glory, Crass, Crossed Out, Discharge, Disrupt, Fortress, Fugazi,Infest, Minor Threat, Napalm Death, Throbbing Gristle...

Do any other bands spring to mind ?

Define 'compromise' first.

Is it a compromise if band member A comes in and says, hey... I feel like going in this direction cause I like the way it sounds and want to change our direction some ...is that a compromise, cause you the fan got hurt feelings or whatever over it?

Armatus/Satan's Sign of War
Dead Reptile Shrine

These bands seem like bands/guys who don't give two shits about what is trendy. it's hard to really say what is fully uncompromising because the word has been tainted by a lot of stupid bands who proclaim to be "extreme" but really just fit nicely into a little niche.

Armatus/Satan's Sign of War is just a great project, half of it sounds like what a lot of guys do in rehearsal rooms just trying to create something true to form without glitz or glamour.

Dead Reptile Shrine is just a sonic onslaught, filled with all sorts of confusion.

Glenn Danzig. Musically he does whatever he wants, whenever he wants.

Didn't Discharge compromise with their Grave New World album which was butt rock?

Maybe, but maybe playing whatever you want even if it will be hated is not compromising. I love grave new world though.

Heh, yeah. I can't decide if they're just uncompromising or simply inept... maybe both?

I'm not sure what "uncompromising" means here either.

There's a whole hell of a lot of "uncompromising" artists, bands, musicians, politicians, etc.: meaning dudes who sound and act the same their entire public lives. But as far as uncompromising bands/musicians that IMO still make relevant work year after year:

Sachiko M (she literally doesn't change her approach for anyone she plays with, and it works often enough).

Peter Broetzmann... I don't really care about the ideological part of this thread (or what that means in the end), but I'd be hard pressed to find a musician who is less compromising in his aesthetic. That however doesn't mean he doesn't play well with others, but that often his compatriots bend their aesthetics to his.

Borbetomagus... see Broetzmann above.

The Rita -- he's been relatively consistent his entire discography, however he does have interests that change and influence his work overtime. But overall, it's always The Rita.

Cecil Taylor -- The dude is 80 something years old, and still crushes. And throughout his long career, he's been an amazing collaborator while largely unbending.

Derek Bailey -- if you haven't heard him, just do it. Long career, remarkably consistent and himself.

I'm gonna stop with the improvised/free jazz/noise musicians, because I realize that this isn't what it's probably really about here. As far as metal/punk?

Doom

Dropdead

GISM

Bolt Thrower

Antaeus

Worship

Mournful Congregation

Ride for Revenge

more that I'm not going to stretch my mind to list right now.
