Just got back from the gig in Ghent.
Got there just in time for Impiety, and what a dissapointment it was. Years I was longing to see them live, but they really had the worst possible sound. I can only remember one band in my life that had such a bad sound. Only vocals and drums, close to no guitar! I could hardly recognize songs I have heard dozens of times before. They ended with a cover of the mighty Darkness (Death squad), but what's the use if you have such a shit sound. A real pity, especially since I think the band couldn't do anything about it.
Well, then there was Watain. Smelly as always, I was not very impressed by them either. Lots of songs from the new record which I haven't heard, and which I think I will keep this way. Too melodic for my taste. Only two songs from the first record at the end of the set (On horns impaled and The limb crucifix) which were the best ones of the evening for me. They did have a decent sound and good stageperformance, but I'm always comparing with their old gigs when they were less tight, but had a better setlist and just did more for me.
So, can't say this night was a success for me, although I finally did get a chance to pick up an Impiety shirt and patch. Too bad I didn't have a chance to talk to you Ykh!
