there are two gain controls(preamp)and two master volumes(master)?
Its just that they aren't called "volume"

Hmm, OK. So the head will give me high gain also at a low volume?

I have no means to test the amp before ordering, so want to make sure there are no surprises when I get the damn thing.

Another thing, does anyone know how does the Jet City amp compare to Marshall DSL20HR?

yeah just crank the preamp and roll down the master.
Its basically the same amp as te custom 22 without the toggle switches for eq.The gain and volume dials are just named differently.

Dont thomman have a return policy? just send it back if you dont like it. If you are in germany that is...

Interesting choice.. Watched some clips on YouTube and I got to say it sounds pretty good. Tried it yourself?

No, but I've tried some joyo pedals and all of them are excellent, especially given the price.

The Boss Katana series is also interesting. The Mini is quite powerful and not expensive.

Boss Katana are good practice amps for the price but doesn't really hold a candle to a half decent tube amp. It's basically an amplified Boss GT5. I borrowed my friend's 100w head for a week, the first impression was cool then you start to hear the "GT-ness"...

Personally I'd take a Jet City over a DSL (even the UK ones) any day of the week.

I'm not sure if the guy is on a budget or not. Those are pretty decent options when the cash is not there.

I’m not going to spend much, around €500 tops, which includes the HB cab, but that’s quite cheap. So far, the Jet City, Marshall, and Joyo Zombie all seem decent choices to me.

In that case, you can get the 20W version of plenty of good amps:

https://www.thomann.de/gb/orange_micro_dark.htm

https://www.thomann.de/gb/peavey_6505_mini_head_b_stock.htm

https://www.thomann.de/gb/evh_5150_iii_15w_lbxii_top.htm

5150/6505 are some some of the ballsiest amps available.

I got a EHX Soul Food this week
Damn, it's amazing what a light overdrive pedal can do to tighten and add compression, I've been messing with distortion pedals with my amp and they all sound terrible, but stick a subtle overdrive in front of the amp (that barely gets a AC/DC level of dirt) and it can turn an amp into a defined high gain beast

I now have the tone for these kinds of riffs on an Orange amp which otherwise has a vastly different tone (which I also like): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3BpNvJ9rgI

My current setup is Horizon III through bootleg HM2 from Behringer into some shitty no name amp I bought for around $30 when i was a teenager. Hoping to buy the mini Peavey 6505 in the near future.

What kind of Tubescreamer/OD do you guys use in front of a high gain amp? What are your favorites and why?

At the moment I'm using a Bad Monkey in front of a Dual Rec. 2 channel, which is quite versatile due to the EQ options you have on it. But so far it's the only one I tried so I can't compare to anything else.

I also own a dual rectifier, and I've tried the Ibanes TS9, which is great also, tone in the middle and gain on 0, gives a nice low cut without adding much fizz.

Recently I changed it for a Fulltone, Full-Drive 2 so I can have a clean boost + a 2nd gain boost for solo's.
