Self Titled. Much more straight forward and thrashier sounding. That release was like Possessed's Seven Churches. Just gave you an uneasy feeling once you started reading the lyrics. Great stuff. They need to go back to that well big time.

Self titled for sure!!! Legion is a classic record for sure, but i always thought the guitar sound was way weaker than the debut.

Used to be Legion, but now I prefer the self-titled. Just prefer the production and the riffs on that album. Fucking evil. Also, one of the first death metal albums I fell in love with.

Voted s/t. When it came out I was gasping for air for a week; just plain unbelievable. The whole atmosphere on this album is still unmatched. "Legion" is killer as well.

Insineratehymn.

Just kidding - I couldn't whistle one tune off that LP bar Bible Basher. The guitar sound is weaker than Anthrax on State of Euphoria.

Anyway - S/T stopped the world from spinning the first time I heard it - unbelievable sense of evil on that record. Crucifixation is the best song they ever made.

But, Legion is insanely good - The pinnacle of technical brutal death.

It's from some made for TV movie about The Jonestown Massacre. Can't remember the title.

I remember when Legion came out, it was a pretty huge deal. Short and Intense, it was like 90's answer to Rain in Blood. Also, Urban myth and negative publicity had depicted Benton as a legit anti hero, and all around scary motherfucker. Militant animal rights people tried to kill him, if you all remember. Death Metal became something to hate and fear as opposed to just a genre of music, and the first two records were a good aural backdrop for that vibe.

Now he's been reduced to a wacky meme, immortalized holding bananas on top of his head. I hate the future.

For the record, I prefer the S/T to legion, but only slightly.

Legion is one of the only fast death metal albums that I think has a legitamately evil atmosphere, in my opinion anyway.

I can't cite one as being better than the other. I think I def revere both equally. If pushed, I'd probably argue in favour of 'Legion' though there is a somewhat more organic feel about S/T. I'm gonna sound lame and say I'm better off for both these records existing...

It has Power Boothe as Jim Jones! It also has Brad Dourif, and Ned Beatty not getting sodomized! I'll have to watch this when I have the time.
