I've got a ton of B's. A lot of A's and S's, etc.

Cds, it's the letter D because of Decayed alone (39 cds).
Vinyl, it has to be the letter N. I have 197 NunSlaughter records, and a lot of other stuff starting with that letter...

Ikea is discontinuing the Expedit as it looks like, starting from summer. A replacement will be there, but this won't be size compatible with the old Expedit, when merging several shelves together.

Why would they do that? I'm guessing it's one of their top-selling products.
Might actually buy one 'on reserve'...

left = expedit. right = new "kallax"

Yes, Kallix is the successor, but length/width/depth will not fit to an Expedit, when stapling these things...

I don't know how some of you guys can handle having collections that fill whole rooms (or more). I have a tiny collection compared to some people here, and sometimes it takes me fucking forever just to decide what to listen to. Not to mention that sometimes I'll feel guilty if I haven't listened to records in a few days, thinking I'm not getting enough fun out of the money and energy I spent getting the stuff. Laughing

I'm in the same boat. I feel like having an excess collection of everything under the sun is pointless. I'm glad I have a small "essential" collection and that fits me just fine. I only buy what I want, and what I know I will listen to. I don't need every catalog number from a label or every single color of the vinyl when it gets released. I know a guy with over 3,000 records and listens to about 20 of them. What is the point in that?

Oh good. I've been wondering how to queer up my record room. Some pink and aqua shelves would really do the job!!!! It'll go perfectly with my funk, jazz fusion and technical progressive death metal records.....

Err, for the Deutsch inept here, what exactly is the difference between the expedit and the kalkax? Besides the fruity easter egg color selection...

The shelves in the middle are thinner.

Here's a Kallax:

Humus: Ikea Belgium promised they will keep making expedits for the next years.

Always establish an Expedit with the long shelves horizontal and the short ones vertical, then something like this shouldn't happen.

I thought the Kallax line was new, hasn't that photo been circulating for years?

size is it. the outer Planks are thicker (1cm). expedit is 2cm bigger in wide and high. shelf size is the same expedit vs kallax

Expedit:

79 x 79 cm
79 x 149 cm
149 x 149 cm
44 x 149 cm

kallax:

77 x 77 cm
77 x 147 cm
147 x 147 cm
42 x 147 cm

This is actually a photo of an incorrectly oriented Expedit. You can tell because all of the side and top pieces are wide. As someone else already mentioned, the horizontal pieces must be the long ones or this disaster will happen.
