Can anyone suggest a good method of storing cassette tapes?

Like the name implies, Kassett-box by Ikea is a good solution when storing tapes. It's made of sturdy cardboard, it has metal lining on the edges and it comes with a lid.
One box holds about 90 tapes.

Has anyone used Ikea's Kallax unit yet?

A friend rebuilt his living room last weekend and I had the pleasure to set up a 2x2 and 4x2 Kallax.
I'm pretty sure there is no reason to mourn the Expedit except for aesthetic reasons when you want to expand your Expedit setup with a Kallax.

I thought those might be way inferior in quality when the outer shelves get thinner and the price cheaper, but I was surprised about how heavy it felt.
Just checked at the website and a 2x2 Kallax with packaging weighs 3.2kg more than a 2x2 Expedit with packaging despite being a tiny bit smaller, so my impression wasn't wrong.

I think it looks better with the slightly thinner outer shelves and its more stable nonetheless. If you want to build up a new storage system or don't care for the little change in design go for it!

Thank you for the suggestions everyone. Looks like I need to start pestering my local grocery store for some extra cardboard pallets and if that doesn't pan out I'll look into these "Kassett" boxes.

Great to hear! Never understood the hate, really. Did you set it up with the top pieces on the side?

How often do you end up with a bunch of records on the floor?

It would be really easy to build a lip on the bottom of that top shelf to prevent those records from slipping off or the need to pay constant attention so that they don't.

Nope, standing on these pieces, so the 4x2 is 4 vertically.
Also they didn't get fully loaded instantly, not with records anyway. But the system of the inner shelves didn't change I think, should still be better to put them on these top pieces.

I don't believe this to be really the property of the forum poster!

Haha, of course it isn't mine.

This place belongs to an Aussie guy that bought 30,000 records and built a house to store them in.

Who has the biggest collection of the posters on this forum? YK? Iron Tyrant? Someone else? What kinda Lp-count are we talking about?

Biggest I've ever seen IRL is ~75k albums (!!!!), but that collection has a strong preference for jazz. I know fuck-all about jazz but I stilll got a semi perusing it.

Anybody know what the biggest metal LP collection in the world is?
