Maybe it is just me that I'm becoming OCD but it's extremely annoying when brand new CDs have that little damges caused by these retarded jewel cases, the ones with the insert pinched between those two tabs. Why they cannot just use the jewel cases with those fucking protective bars that don't damage the insert!? I've seen that new releases, for example the ones by NWN come with the proper case and they're MINT. But older CDs come 90% damaged because of this... it's pretty annoying. If I'm buying a new CD it has to be MINT. They also have an aesthetic value, the inserts have their importance. Someone else sees this as an annoying problem?

I used to feel this way when I was only buying CDs and paying up to $20 for them sometimes. My attitude shifted when LPs become the thing I left home and kept nice and CDs where the thing I threw into my car or carried around with me. I don't tend to care if the inserts get a little fucked up as long as the play well, even when they're brand new.

Your records are warping even as I type this, acidmind. Look at the right-most column of the expedit on the right. On the 2nd shelf from the bottom, the record closest to the wall of the cabinet is a few inches away from it, and only the top of the jacket is touching the side wall of the cabinet. There's a couple dozen other LPs leaning on it, which is a fair amount of weight. If that LP is not already bent, it will be shortly.

Same for the shelf above, and probably others.

If you insist on having half-full shelves, you need to store the LP closest to the wall of the cabinet flush against it. Put the next LP flush against it. Only let your LPs acquire a general (and small) tilt far from the wall. Better yet, just store them all vertical and use a big hardback book as a bookend at the end of each row. It looks like you have a nice collection there but you are not storing them properly. They will absolutely get damaged if you leave them like that.

Update: according to the Ikea website Expedit is no longer available in Belgian stores. From 1 April 2014 it is Kallax and Kallax only. Those who speak Dutch or French can read Ikea's statement here or here.

Maybe this is different in other countries, but in any case I think you better hurry if you still want to get the classic 5x5.

I picked up the smaller Expedit at the local Ikea store yesterday. They still have a bunch of them, but 2x4 and up is only Kallax. I probably should have gotten 2 of the Expedit units, but oh well.

At least some of the Expedit-variations are not available as Kallax, at least in Finland, so that's a problem for some.

From what's I've read on the internet, the 5x5 Exepedit won't have a Kallax equivalent. Also some people fear that the thinner Kallax will not be as durable as the Expedit were.

I've actually been making my own labeled dividers similar to this picture. Probably more work than it's worth, but I think it will look neat when it's all done.
