Look, I can't tell if this is just brutal fucking nostalgia or what, but this is a record I revisit, without question, at least once a year for a few spins. This dropped when I was the tender age of 12, and it left a HUGE impression on me: easy to digest songs about the undead and... I dunno, driving in a car (?), Sean Yseult being a fucking fox, catchy fucking riffs, etc. Everything about this record is so dated, but in a very charming 90's kind of way. In retrospect, they really overdid it with the fucking samples - it's total fucking overkill where maybe less might have been a less dated record?

Anyone else have a soft spot for this record? I've linked some hilariously ridiculous youtube clips, the one of them playing some kids backyard is hilarious in all the right ways. They are surprisingly tight at this point, vs some atrocious festival footage I've seen in the past.....

And of course:

Razz Twisted Evil Shocked Embarassed

(I did my yearly spin of this after my wife's best friend was bugging us to come meet the new jackanape she's dating, and I was like "okay fine but I'm literally only going to talk about Rob Zombie all night no matter what just to weird this guy out" and then I realized I had Black Sunshine stuck in my head for like a week straight Cool )

In junior high I really liked the big titted cartoon ladies on the back cover.

Funny this got brought up, I had Thunderkiss 65' randomly pop into my head at work the other day. I've never actually heard this album in its entirety. I did play the hell out of Astrocreep in middle school, though.

I smell midlife crisis. It's ok, happens to everyone. Maybe I'll spin this tomorrow.

I dig it. I probably give that and their debut a couple of plays each year. I played it a lot when it was released!

Was playing it last week looking for tunes that I could put on my 11 year old son's ipod. I thought it was a band he'd like.

I had the privilege of coming up in the late 80s and early 90s Hardcore and Metal scenes in NYC. Although Rob Zombie is from Massachusetts, he came to NYC for art school and formed White Zombie in NYs Lower East Side. Since no one sounded like WZ in NYC at this time, the band played on all sorts of different bills. I saw White Zombie open for NYHC legends CRO-MAGS and LEEWAY, then a month later they would be playing with QUICKSAND and INTO ANOTHER. Then with PRONG, then with REPULSION ( the band who became TYPE O NEGATIVE). And at all of these shows, they fucking killed it! They were first signed to the NYC based indie label Caroline Records, but in the live show they were doing a lot of the songs that ended up on "Devil Music..". In 1991, Rob relocated the and to California and they got signed to the major label Geffen Records...and the rest is history. They went on to become one of the biggest bands in the world. Devil Music is a fantastic record.

Oh man, nostalgia; I grew up with this band. Definitely a good album, I bring it out every now and then. I always liked it more than Astro-Creep because of the more thrashy riffs. Their material is all so surprisingly atmospheric. La Sexorcisto driving down an endless desert road, Astro ending up in the scummy city in some shit-house motel. As a kid, really getting into these songs on headphones was, for me, an early example of really appreciating imagery and atmosphere in music. Which naturally led to black metal...
