Anyone have an informed insight into where Darkthrone took the name for the 'Goatlord' release from?

Also, does anyone recall whether the tape traded version of this rehearsal was actually called 'Goatlord'? I can't remember...

Thanks!

I think he's wondering if they got the name from the band Goatlord.

Yeah, I'm willing to bet they were referring to Satan or some Baphomet-type deity. What's the mystery?

Maybe, maybe not. It's kind of like saying that a band stole the name "Satan" for an album, it's just a common word with a pretty general, overall meaning which will be seen, in particular, with Metal music more than enough to make one nauseous and it would be retarded for a band to claim these words as their own. I think there are about 7 Goatlord bands from around the world, I highly doubt every single one of them stole the name from one another. And, according to Metal-Archives, there are 50 song titles with the word "Goatlord" in their title.

Yeah, it wasn't meant to be an obtuse question. I am putting a book together - www.blackmetalrevolution.com and someone submitted a piece citing Darkthrone's 'Goatlord' as being a title derived from the US band's namesake. I've never heard that before and wondered if anyone could correlate.

Ha ha, maybe that's what I should have written first...

They worship the goatlord demos, so perhaps homage to the band? Fenriz loves to namedrop and reference other bands.

And he's never done it so often as he has these last three years.

Back then, Fenriz usually just kept it to "yeah we are into some bands, old Celtic Frost, Bathory.... you know".

true, and i'm pretty sure that the title "The cult is Alive" came from the lyrics of Sphynx of Poison. So i won't be surprise if they took the name from the band.

Well he did mention bands, but he was all kvlt and mysterious. I found out he loved the goatlord demos from a early 90's interview around the time of transilanian hunger and panzerfaust, claiming that it was raw, primitive, and closer to black metal than the death metal scene, therefore true.

Modern interviews with Fenriz is basically just for people to ask him his opinions on all music EXCEPT darkthrone, and if someone asks about Darkthrone, then he'll change the subject as an opportunity to reference bands, musicians, records, etc. Though i do admit, i agree with a lot of his music choices. Cool

And I hope the next album is like that, Adrenalin OD kicks ass!

Just ask Fenriz. He'll answer questions about Darkthrone, he just doesn't like dealing with fanboys.
