Many fans on here or not? I really like their sound its enough old uk black metal mixed with space rock etc to be really interesting.

I like it when they do their more venom/warfare meets crust punk sound the best of their material.

Only heard the last two albums but I really dig them. Weird stuff!

Weird band. I'm not a fan, but I like some of their songs. Jew Killer is a very good track.

Check out their Split Album with Mayhem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv8Pw2_HTjo

The measure of sophistication concerning their songwriting is astonishing...hail the Meads of Asphodel, hail the Tartaros

...does anybody know if they give any concerts? Never heard of having the possibility to see them on stage.

The Meads will never play any concerts. The singer, Metatron, doesn't want to do it
But I am trying to get them to do a live performance in the studio to release on online

I'm good friends with the band and help with promotion and have done a couple of their album sleeves etc...

And I recently released a comp if you want to check out their music before they signed to Candlelight

Can't say I like all of their work but Metatron has a vision and focus like no other. The Murder of Jesus the Jew is one of my favourite albums of recent years. Absolute genius.

Yeah, I agree with this. Some of their songs are incredible, even if I'm not into everything. It's a small gripe, but the other Ihsahn style vocals grate on me after a while too.

Wolves of Avalon are pretty cool as well.

I've been wanting to like this band for the last 10 years but every time I give them a chance it just falls short. They're not exactly bad, but just smack dead in the middle of alright. Even if the later albums have been an improvement, it's still not quite good enough for me.

The Wonderful World cover is pretty nice though.

Heard bits and pieces over the years. Some I liked, some I didn't. Any consensus on where to start/their best album to check out?

For me, their best album is The Murder Of Jesus The Jew

And mentioned above is a comp I released of their earlier work entitled The Middle Ages, which is the best of their earlier work from album number 2 onwards

Metatron said he's the only guy stopping the machine of doing a live performance kicking in.

Malcom dome said it best "if the meads played live where would they play?" referring to the weirdness that they would have to match onstage.

Does anyone here like Jaldaboath, the silly Monty Python inspired project of their former member Fogarty? When I'm horribly drunk and in need of some stupid headbanging music, this stuff fits me as well as Onkel Tom or any other abomination

I was one of their biggest fans till Jaldaboath left! I still liked the album after that with Mirai on keys, then just gave up on them after that. Nothing compares to the 3 demos they did though!

Always been a fan, but am especially enjoying their stuff lately. My only gripe is the level of the vox on the last album; much too low for such amazing lyrics and delivery. Some of my favourite lyrics from this band:

"
Behold the quenchless eastern fire
To frenzied war we are driven
To stoke the hearths of guttural moans
This craving maw we are given
Bones are cleaved and shattered
Amidst the hail and thunder
Ashes raked and scattered
Dignity cast asunder
You gaze at the heavens so magnificent and vast
Dreaming of peace with shrapnel up your arse.

One god with many names
One race with many faces
Everyone’s right and everyone’s wrong
And they’ll not know what they have lost
Until its all fucking gone."

"You will become like shit on the shoe of a Lucifer, the gristle in a pool of Demonic vomit. You will become the genital warts that adorn the arse of Hades. All this and more shall you become in the final days of Man"

"In the event of armageddon, confess
Make your way calmly to the nearest place of worship
Your God awaits you
If your loved ones are disembowled, do not panic, God is with you
If your men succumb to biological agents, do not panic, God is with you
In these last hours there will be great suffering and much spilling of blood
Brains will boil and limbs will be scattered in ravishing delight
The unspeakable carnage and ceaseless images of decapitated children may seem senseless
But remember, God is with you
Hell is coming and yet heaven awaits the righteous
On gathering at your place of worship, pray to your sovereign lord
Salvation is at hand
If you have sinned, confess
Confess or be cast into the pit of torment until the day of judgement
But do not panic, God is with you
God is fucking with you (x14)
God is fucking you (x11)
God is fucking with you (xCool "

Metatron's writing on these subjects mixed with the backing music reminds me of the way Robert Crumb illustrates the old testament. Pure LSD and apocalyptic madness!

Best starting point? I'd say Damascus Steel.
