It's definitely on the upswing. It seems like every time I go to the liquor store here, there are more canned craft beers than every before. Quite a few of the local Chicago area breweries seem to be can only for their mass produced beers, while still using bottles for their bombers of limited run stuff. It's definitely a great time to be a beer fan. My only wonder is what breweries will be left after the bubble bursts in a few years. |

My recommendation is that you skip kit brewing and just use malt extracts. The only extra thing you would need is a stock-pot and a big spoon. You're basically just bringing preserved malts to a boil, adding whatever hops you want and then some yeast. You can make anything from a German Rauchbier to a porter. Tonnes of different malt extracts to choose from. Anyway, sure you have enough to think about now. Extract brewing doesn't take the fun out of it, it just makes the beginning stages a whole bunch easier and reduces the chances of you having an infected batch your first couple of times. |

Did anyone else try Southern Tier Warlock yet? I was able to snag 2 bombers last week and I think it's better than what Pumking is now. _________________

What I really like about a can is I can drop an unopened one on concrete and still have a beer later...
What I love are German imports in cans. I usually can only find a couple around here, but they always taste good. The same exact beer (usually a Pilsner) in a bottle always stale.

You get to the point where you are really going to go start piecing your system together pm me. A phone call would probably help answer questions better than a forum post. Check out your local library and see if they have some brewing books. I like Randy Mosher "Radical Brewing". He really gets into the history of beer. Nothing more interesting to me than beer and metal and books.

Thanks for the info. The link provided by the other poster and your post is giving me plenty to read and think about today at work.
I don't have any grand plans, I'd just like to brew some decent beers in a not too large, sustainable system for personal use. Decision, decisions... |

Don't drop your beers!
I agree about the German beers in cans. Bitburger and Warsteiner especially. Dunno why this is. Probably because I pour the cans into a pint glass but I don't do that with the bottles. |

A couple of each of these last night. Gimmick beer. Nice
The AC/DC beer may as well have been piss filled cans. Horrible. The Iron Maiden beer at least was decent. |
