For me it's Chardonnay, Spätburgunder & Absolut Vodka today. |
I've been on it 4 of the past 5 nights. Coming down with a cold so might need to take the foot off the gas or have a cheeky whisky (or two). |

Yeah. We bought that and shared the bottle with a few friends. The verdict: "This tastes like a malt liquor trying to be classy." Weird estery shit going on with that beer.
We are drinking a freeze-fractionated strong ale. It started at 12%, then we froze some of the water out, so now it's hovering around 17% ABV or so. If I was going to do this again, I'd specifically brew a beer with very low hop presence, because concentrating the beer like this can throw the hop/malt balance completely out of whack. |

Courtesy of NWN-forum brew pusherman lordoftherim. Fat Heads Headhunter IPA. Heavy tropical-fruit hop character (the spouse renamed this "The Fruit-Stripe beer") but lots of good malt backbone and hop bitterness to make it a good-drinking brew.
Also, Worthington's White Shield IPA. Other end of the IPA spectrum, this is a well-made English IPA, with earthy hops and a biscuity malt character.
Both are perfect accompaniment to watching Australia beat the mortal shit out of Sri Lanka in Test cricket. |

Nice one! I bet it's really nice on tap, as it's already pretty killer in the bottle. |

I'll vote "good thing" because we both love those big American-style hop noses, although we were both getting some of the tropical-fruit/apricot aromas typical of Amarillo or Citra hops (rather than the citrus of Centennial). I am not sure if Fat Heads uses Amarillo in that brew or if that's a side-effect of a really estery yeast varietal -- regardless, it was pretty fruit-forward.
We're now onto Wormtown Be Hoppy IPA. Totally different character again than either mentioned before. Super-spicy hop nose on this one, with good bitterness in the finish. |
