This is actually in french.

The best way to pronounce it for english speaking people would be something like this;

Cult-hu. Day. Ghoul. Wink

Göühl maybe? Smile

fuck no. Longinus is a latin name. the pronunciation would be "Lon-GEE-news" with american "news", not british.

Maybe in the Italian accented version of Latin it's pronounced that way. In the English-speaking world and elsewhere, the original poster is correct. Lon-JAI-nus. The band pronounces it Lon-JAI-nus, and correctly.

You can't base your pronunciation on an automated translation program. You're better off, with a real word like Longinus, finding a specific pronunciation on a dictionary website. Here:

Longinus' pronunciation is the same in italian and latin. so the band's "englishization" of the word is not correct.

AFAIK there isnt sure how latin was pronounced cause it was dead for so many centuries and survived only as written. But cause italian language comes from latin, I think that youre right. Or atleast I have pronounced it as LONG-GE-NEWS.

But question is, should some name be pronounced as they should be or as bandmembers themself say it? I play in band which has swedish name and I pronounce it as finnish say it. In matter of fact, it sounds so strange when someone say it in swedish way. Earlier I played in band which had this "pseudo latin" name and when some yankees asked how it should be pronounced, nobody knew or havent ever though of it.

If you speak English or pronounce it like the band, it should be Lon-JAI-nus. Considering the band says it that way and the preceding word, Spear, is in English, that should settle any debate.

Not saying it's correct, just giving my source.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Longinus?s=t&path=/

I doubt if I'll change the way I'm saying it even if it is wrong though.

Lon-GEE-news just doesn't sound right to me.
