I recently were reminded to this striking similarity between the artwork from Necromantia LP and a roleplaying game from late 80s.
Anyone knows a story around this? Its bound to have risen some questions in the past since many of those members were inspired by roleplaying. Did the artist blatantly copy the cover from the game on the bands request or did he fall to sin by himself alone??

Also "Det som En Gang Var" artwork was a scandal in terms of rip-off towards the roleplaying world back in the day.

Let's not forget this one:

Although I don't think BT ripped off the artwork, Games Workshop did it specifically for them and Realm of Chaos is actually the soundtrack to that game.

It even has the artwork to the debut! I thought that the Det Som cover was based off a roleplaying game, and the reaper from Burzum's first was added for fun.

The painting of the death knights is from the Dragonlance sagas. I believe the knight with red eyes is Lord Soth, and the attendant knights flanking him are his minions.

Yeah, that's ridiculously blatant... The RPG one is way better than the cover, too.

Heh, the band would probably have been better off with just ripping off the art directly. I've seen a few artists steal D&D and Warhammer images for covers and t-shirts, and in certain circumstances it looks really awesome.

I myself learned to draw and paint the standard metal stuff because I originally wanted to do illustration for role playing games and wargames. pretty much no difference between the two a lot of the time other than some inverted crosses.

Occasionally I get to cross the two like the space marine shirt I did for Terra Caput Mundi.... although I'm a bit wary of GW's legal force.
