Opinions on this amazing 70's Priest classic?

I've always loved the album, even though it's often forgotten or ignored when talking about other amazing early Priest releases like Sad Wings of Destiny, Stained Class and Unleashed in the East. Sin After Sin is in the same league with all those albums. There are a couple of weaker songs (on Priest's standards) like "Starbreaker" and "Last Rose of Summer", so it can't be considered a perfect album by any means, but it's still easily the third best Priest (studio) album in my opinion, and songs like "Sinner", "Call for the Priest" and "Dissident Aggressor" are all mind-blowing. "Diamonds and Rust" is one of the most legendary metal covers of non-metal songs, "Raw Deal" has got one of the best heavy metal riffs of all time and "Here Come the Tears" is a ballad that ends with an explosion... This album has truly got it all. It's not as solid as the albums that came right before and after it, but it's got a huge amount of variety and it still manages to remain coherent and pretty damn excellent. Classic Judas Priest at their best.

Thoughts on the album and Priest's early stuff in general?

On the one hand - I like "Unleashed in the East", on the other hand - I can't listen to an entire pre-Killing Machine album, since they get me bored.

70s Priest is one way how I tell whether or not I'd get along with somebody. If they don't worship 70s Priest, our future interactions could be in extreme jeopardy.

They were at their best in the 70's, without doubt.
1. Stained Class
2. Sad Wings of Destiny
3. Sin After Sin

I've never been a huge fan of their later stuff either, even though most Priest albums have at least a couple of great songs, even the newer ones. Sad Wings is probably my favorite metal album, but Stained Class comes very close as well.

Chained and shackled, we are bound

No band in the history of metal has put out three back to back albums that are this awesome and of such class.

Priest is one of my favorite bands, even though they obviously dropped in quality after Stained Class. I prefer the studio versions of all their tracks as opposed to Unleashed in the East (even though this is probably the best live album ever).

1. Sad Wings of Destiny
2. Rocka Rolla
3. Sin After Sin
4. Stained Class

Great album. The song "Raw Deal" came out of no where when I first heard the album; such a great track. And what else can be said about "Dissident Aggressor." Not my favorite all around album of their 70s material though.

Sin after sin and Sad Wings, probly laid the groundwork for metal more then anything else in the 70's ... funny that a song like "Diamonds and rust" would be in there.. every song gets me going.. total classic !!!!!!!

Great album, actually it been not so long since I started listening to some Judas Priest when I bought Sin After Sin, Stained Class and Screaming for Vengeance for 5 $ each at a used records store. They were in really good condition and even had old merch inserts. No need to say it was well worth it.

Great album! I think I prefer Stained Class and Sad Wings Of Destiny, but all 70s Priest is essential. Sinner has got to be one of the top ten best metal songs ever written. And Starbreaker rules... Cool
