Sorry for starting another thread about this but I never got an answer with my old one. I'm looking for something humble in the 200-300 dollar range. I live in a dorm room so I dont have room for a massive setup. Right now I have one of those faux 50's style combo speaker/fm radio piece of shits from kmart and im scared its just gnawing my vinyls to bits. Does anyone know where i can find a record player fitting my needs?

I recommend the Pro-Ject's or the Rega. But those are both fully manual, meaning, if you want to change from 33rpm to 45, you have to remove the platter and adjust the belt. My Musichall is basically the same style. They also do not auto-return at the end of the record, you have to move the arm back.

If you want something even cheaper, go with a NuMark or Stanton. They are built specifically for DJ use and are quality, if not pretty.

Now, since you use an all-in-one, will you need a receiver as well? That is something to take into consideration when moving to a higher quality table.

Or, if you have a basic stereo system with a line input, you can run it through that with a Phono-Preamp (around $15), but you are going to lose a bit of quality.

This is a good, basic, fully auto table, with a phono preamp built in, manign you can run it straight to your stereo, or TV, or comp, anything. Not a GREAT player, but scads better than what you have. I would opt for a bit higher end cartridge to go on that one as well.

Yep - even better. I was not wholly suggesting Needle Doctor. That is just where I tend to look at shit turntable-related.

Fuck, for $60, you do not have much to lose. Throw a little bit higher end cartridge on it and I say you are good to go.

For this one I have read only GOOD reviews and seems to be the best regarding the quality/price factor. Although, I haven't hold one in my hands, it looks fucking promising.

I have a Project Debut MKIII and I absolutely love it. I'd say it was the best 'budget' (i.e. under 300) turntable on the market right now.
