Dunno, I may be right off the track since "Planet Caravan" is a pretty unique almost jazzy track, but when speaking 'bout new bands I'd recommend Serpent Throne and Miasma & the Carousel of Headless Horses for instance.
And as much as I hate Wikipedia, but THIS article dealing with Leslie speaker might give you a direction since it's this very amplifier which gives "Planet Caravan" its typical sound, isn't it? At least there's heaps of references. Just check 'em out. _________________

check Jex Thoth, they got songs who have some kind of eerie folk vibe, particuliary their track from the split w/ Pagan Altar, the intro is similar to Planet Caravan.
edit: oh why not some Amon Duul II as well? |

Check out Down - Jail. Exactly in the same vein. The album though, is not.

Check out Camel - Moonmadness
It's hard to get something exactly like PC, but Moonmadness is possibly my favorite album of all time. |

My favourite album of all time is a toss up between Moonmadness and the S/T Camel album! I can't recommend them enough!
For other recommendations, I'd check out any of the earlier "Si On Avait Besoin D'une Cinquieme Saison" by Harmonium and pretty much any of the earlier Popol Vuh albums. |

There is no better band. The S/T is killer, too. Everything up to Rain Dances was perfect. Rain Dances was great, but falls off at spots.
I love Camel! |

I always thought that if Rain Dances was released by a different band, it would be a brilliant album, but although there's nothing particularly wrong with it, it just doesn't live up to everything that came before it. I like some of the later albums though, Rajaz in particular is brilliant! |
