I never buy CD for more than $10, and with so many $5 distros and mailorders this will include shipping. The only exceptions are albums not available on other format and also cannot be found anywhere for $10 or under, but this is very rare.

Same here. I don't care if it's a long-out-of-print first press or an unlimited tenth press. It just doesn't matter to me for a CD. It's for people like us that the $5 CD distro makes sense.

Just like with hardcore, the cheaper and more abundant the records get, the lower the quality goes.

In 20 years, early 1990s metal will be remembered.

The shit from now? LOL, fuck no.

5 dollar cds are the fucking shit man. IT's not always about the the color the diehard the this the that. Downloading music is ok i guess for people to find out what they like. No since in people having music to throw away that someone else appreciates. What is really pissing me off is that assholes buy a shit load of 5 dollar cds and sell them for like 10 bucks a pop on egay. It's like a slap in the face to the fucking people that try to make the music readily available to the die hards!

Fucking lame.

I enjoy cheap CD's, but I think people are ridiculous for complaining about CD's that cost $10-12. I know that some labels shell out a lot of money for things that don't return, such as advertisement and certain touring which they fund with profit from their other products.

However, after around $15 I will stick with my MP3's, as shitty as that sounds.

Cheap CD's is just great. I don't mind about in which format my albums in general are. I simply prefer vinyl, but I have a lot of CD's as well.

Vinyl collection is a trend as CDs are(were) so it will die as soon as a new fashion format comes ...

Anyway I like & enjoy both formats Laughing

I have too much shitty records that I never listen to. So these days I buy one good CD for 15 usd that I listen frequently, not three CDs that I never listen.

Of course cheap CDs makes collection grow bigger, but still, quality against quantity.

Tape Trading was probably the best form of recommending musick to people without downloading or having to buy shitty musick before you know what it sounds like. Sound quality wasn't good once it got dubbed 3 or four times but it worked!

myself, I absolutely HAVE to own the album if its something I'm into, so a $5 CD is great! My preferred format is actually CD *gasp!* because I can then make my OWN mp3 rip of it for my player to my own anal exacting standards easily Wink ..I buy vinyls for albums that IMO are total fucking classics, only ever released on vinyl, or like in the case of the recent Dark Symphonies releases, just fucking rule and I gotta have them! I do download mp3s from time to time, but this is only to check out bands I have never heard before and in this case, if I do like them, I find there shit and get it for my collection! ..or I delete it cause its shit Razz...and these days even this practice is starting to dwindle in favor of myspace as more and more bands take advantage of this, which I think is a great way for bands to advertise themselves.

I personally don't mind paying any price as long as the music is killer. I still buy new CD's from stores at 20$... hell, I still order CD's from my local metal shop!!

I'm going to lodge a small criticism of this: vinyl is sort of THE ORIGINAL format, so will I think remain eternally popular, like muzzle loaders, fountain pens, long-stem pipes and religion.

Can you pm me or post a list of the $5 distros you know of.

other than NWN Prod I don't know specific names since I prefer to buy vinyl versions and only seek specific title on CD, but I have seen many. Look on sites like Metal Archives advertising forum, always labels/distros posting their current deals or that CD's are priced $5 from them, etc. Even some sites that don't sell them for $5 will have them for no more than $8-10 with deals like "buy 2, get 2 free!" which is just about as good! or they include so many free CD's/tapes for orders over $50 etc.
