For the Crypt of Kerberos - World of Myths re-issue, as mentioned, we chose to use new artwork because the original cover wasn't even really artwork at all. It is so bad that it made me and the band cry. We've more than made up for it as the cover will be done by renowned artist Tom Sullivan (Evil Dead movies - the Book of the Dead). We didn't stop there. For the slipcase and inner artwork, we are using Ian Miller (Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos booklet artwork, Warhammer / Games Workshop games). We chose these artists because not only does the artwork we are using fit the bands songs thematically, but they are both old-school artists who use paint and ink (No Photoshop), but some of the band members used to play the mid-late 80s / early 90s Chaosium classic book rpg games. How much more old school and nostalgic can you get that that? Wink

So you're saying that putting time, money and effort into a release to make it high quality is a cash in? hmmmm, ok. Rolling Eyes

Crypt of Kerberos is one instance where I'm in favor of it. The original art for that album is crap. Not offensively bad, it's just beyond boring and doesn't match up with the music at all.

I couldn't agree more. The band wouldn't let me re-issue it with the original cover art, and I had no problem with that. Smile

Cash-in for some labels. That way collectors will buy both. On the other hand when the cover really needs help (like on Kerberos...) it is more than OK. Beside this is a re-edition of a never released album on wax. Still I need to see that cover art...that CD has some killr songs, they were on to something...is one of those guys with Pain Museum or something? Weird...

Exactly, and the original cover really does need help. 99.9% of the time we always use the original cover art. This would be that .01% where we didn't.

I agree with the dude that said it should be taken on a case by case basis. For example, I think the angel statue with the gasmask on it looks quite faggy on the Conqueror release and like the knight cover on the cassette version better.

What I don't like is "touching up" original artwork. Like the Graveland - Carpathian Wolves reissue or the Beherit- Oath of Black Blood reissue. Hell, I even hate that gay pentagram behind the skeleton thing on the VON reissue. But that's just me. I'm glad there are different artworks floating around for the same releases, everyones happy this way.

Original which for various reasons cannot be used any longer:

New permanent cover that I recently completed for the album:

Hell's Headbangers re-releases will be the first to utilize this now permanent cover.

I always like to use the original cover art, but I must say, this new cover art for Inquisition is awesome. Too bad you can use both covers.

I used all elements from the original in this new painting, just portrayed in this new light.

It is a traditional painting just like all of the others I've done.
