What's your favourite Asphyx album? It's so hard to choose...
I love all their albums, but ''god cries'' maybe is my favourite...So much headbanging with this gem...Actually with all....And with ''on the wings of inferno''!
I was wondering why many people consider it (''god cries'') their worst release! It's fuckin insane!
SLAUGHTERED IN SODOM!

Hehe, you mean the Last One on Earth, still you´re right, one of my favourite albums considering both the cover as well as the godlike music on it.

Asphyx from 1994
=> Prelude Of The Unhonoured Funeral/Depths Of Eternity are just awesome and can't be topped

Immediately followed by The Rack and Crush The Cenotaph.

This is roughly my pattern, but I've been really into Embrace the Death.

God Cries isn't my style! ahaha

Give it a chance man!It's killer for Satan's sake!!RIP Teo Loomans...You are a legend!

The most weak album for me is the s/t.Although is too dark,I think misses some heaviness and aggression.

Before 2 months +,I ve seen them in Athens and it was one the best live performances I ever seen..But I was disappointed for their choise not to play songs from their last albums...Anyway I love all their stuff and the band was goddamn heavy and rotting ,so I shut the fuck up and bang my head like there's no tomorrow! The KRUSHER!!!!!!

strange, I just went home yesterday and was listening to Asphyx - s/t (1994) and thought of starting a thread to worship those overlooked and - often - forgotten jewels of Death Metal.

Peter, you got my vote.
this bridge connecting both songs you mentioned can never been topped. su cruel, so majestic, so dark! shivers run down my neck EVER since I listen to that! Don't forget initioation into the ossuary..evil and slowly crushing!

Most people were irritated by this album cause the sound wasn't that bursting one on the reck and l.o.o.e., but if you get used to it and get used to the new vokillist, this is so brilliant.

conclusio: I cannot decide which of the first (official) three is best. fact is: all three are among the best of continental european death. forever. prost!

The infernal trilogy gathering The Rack / Last one on earth / Asphyx are the best stuffs for sure. If I had to select only one, I would keep "last one on earth", though.

The "Asphyx" album is obviously criminally underated : I think vocals of Ron Van Pol are really decent even if I have a preference for Martin Van Drunen's job. Both have different types of vocals so it's hard to compare, anyway. Lots of killer songs can be found on this release. Some parts are a bit too long and monotonous on the end of the album especially on "valleys of oblivion" and "back into eternity" which are not really the best things the band have composed but the other songs are so excellent that it's not really a problem, in the end.
Also, I think the dark and heavy production is perfect.

Well, to be honest, I don't understand how some people can enjoy "god cries" when there are classics as "last one on earth" in their discography. Wink
They brought some new influences in their music at this point and even if some parts are in the typical ASPHYX way it doesn't save the album which is boring and disappointing... like a lot of release at that time, anyway (ex : GRAVE with their crappy "hating life" from 1996 or MORGOTH with "feel sorry for the fanatics") !
