West Wall's "Blitzkrieg Symphony #1" has been among my favorite "new" death metal albums for a while... excellent stuff somewhat like Destroyer 666 meets Bolt Thrower.

These guys have a couple of new tracks at their myspace (Tunnel Rat and Shield Wall):

hmm, seems as if they may have decided to drop the Nazi/WWII theme this time...? Great rough-mix songs, at any rate. Can't wait to hear the new album.

I agree, that debut album was one of the strongest slabs of death metal I purchased in recent history. I've heard a few bands, some very good, play a Bolt Thrower inspired take on death metal but they are the only ones to so far equal the originals imo. That album measures right up to Warmaster, The IVth Crusade or For Victory which is not something I claim lightly.

The lyrics seemed rather mild for many bands that delve into that subject matter, and honestly if the music is good I never give a damn what they write about, but it did make the album a little tricky to obtain. The labels webstore didn't seem to work at all and it took some searching before I found an unopened new copy for sale on eBay. Hopefully the second album is a little easier to buy.

The 1st album was great old-school Death/Thrash, the new song sounds great too! Ed is a great musician and I love all of his projects, no matter the music style.

I wouldn't say they're quite that good, myself, but they come pretty close, and they're definitely the best playing this style at the moment, barring the original. Very Happy Maybe the second album will convince me, those new tracks are all I've listened to this week.

Yeah, the first record was a bitch to find, and I don't even think the label website is still there today. Wonder if they'll release the new record on a different label...?

I would hope so. As long as an album is still in print it usually is never that hard to track down with a little bit of effort searching the internet. Not the case with their debut. Well worth the efforts to obtain it. This band deserves more attention then they currently get.

Uhm, not trying to be an asshole but judging from the samples the band is nowhere near those albums, rather similar to the last two Bolt Thrower. Having said that it is still pretty good material.

Anyway, you guys might also dig Weak Aside:

I agree, they're a decent band but I wouldnt go THAT far. I wouldn't consider them anywhere near as good as Bolt Thrower. I would say they seem to be havily influenced by the most recent Bolt Thrower album, but nowhere near as good. I don't think they're even among the top bands playing that style of Death Metal at the moment. Sanctum, Limb From Limb and Audio Kollaps are far better at playing Bolt Thrower worshiping Death Metal.

Sanctum, Limb From Limb and Audio Kollaps aren't really playing the same style (For Victory ain't the same thing as In Battle... or Realm of Chaos!), so I don't see the comparison. Personally, I'd take West Wall over any of these, but that's just my personal taste... Sanctum is pretty great, though.

As for Weak Aside, they're also good, but they don't touch West Wall.

never heard Limb From Limb but Sanctum and Audio Kollaps are both pretty decent bands. I agree with vorfeed here though, West Wall definitely is tops for me when it comes to BT styled metal. Same with WeakAside, great band but just not quite on that level.

I think the West Wall album is pretty damn spectacular but I suspect I'm not quite as big a Bolt Thrower fan as some folks here. Wink Personally I'm the same way when anyone declares a band playing an Immolation style of death metal to be as good or better then the greatest band from Yonkers. I'm all for bands trying to measure up but I've never heard one eclipse Vigna, Dolan and crew at their own game.

Another killer new track ("Conquest Or Death") has been posted to the West Wall myspace... good stuff, and a bit closer in subject matter to their first record. Can't wait for the second album!
