I'm more into the "core side" of sludge. cult of luna, isis, pelican... especially cult of luna, could sound strange for me but is one of my fave bands *ever* _________________

I'm familiar with Pelican but it sounds nothing like Eyehategod. I believe they're refered to as post-rock, not sludge. |

If you like Eyehategod check out the new Outlaw Order record that Season of Mist just did. It's all of EHG except for Jimmy Bower. A bit more straightforward, but almost identical at times in terms of their sound.
Otherwise Grief, Unearthly Trance and Noothgrush should keep you happy. Iron Monkey are recommended, but for wahtever reason Earache took their records out of print so original copies can be pricey. |

often overlooked but I consider them to be front runners of the genre, Seven Foot Spleen. Really mean shit. The singers throat sounds slit. |

I pretty much agree with this statement. Two other favorites are early CAVITY (anything before "Supercollider", I'm surprised nobody mentioned them yet) and GREENMACHINE ("D.A.M.N." album only). IRON MONKEY is also really good.

You mean the "emo side" of sludge? I usually refer to these bands as "emo doom". |

Haha, good description. I can't stand any of that "scene doom" stuff, it all sounds like second rate Neurosis to me! |

I was looking through the post for them! Cavity never gets mentioned enough!!!
CAVITY is my favorite next to Eyehategod. Grief "Come to Grief" is essential as well. |
