Just scored the US press of "A Tab in the Ocean" for $10 here. Unreal album.

That's a great one! I managed to pick up "Remember the Future" at that record shop in Texas for like $5 if you remember? That's a great one too!

Ah yeah, that's right! By the way have you checked out any of the Heldon stuff? This Mr. Pinhas fellow is a proper madman!

I haven't actually! Any recommendations of where to start?

"Heldon IV/Agnetta Nillson" totally fucked up synth madness, borders on dark ambient almost.

I'm on it, cheers mate! I've just finished spinning Tales From Topographic Oceans for probably the millionth time in my life. A life that still doesn't have enough synth in it! Wink

Chronolyse is definitely exceptional. Pretty much all of Heldon/Pinhas records are excellent.

When I housesat for YK, the first record I played on his stereo (which far surpasses my own in terms of quality) was "Agneta Nilsson" and it sounded exquisite.

I know it's been recommended already, but I can't stress Gabriel-era Genesis enough, especially for keyboards and atmosphere. Foxtrot and Selling England By the Pound are just masterful recordings. Nursery Cryme and The Lamb Lies Down have plenty of amazing songs too. And Trespass has Stagnation, which is one of their best songs.

JOSÉ CID 10.000 Anos Depois Entre Vênus e Marte 1978

1978's "10.000 Anos Depois Entre Vénus E Marte" LP by JOSÉ CID is the best Portuguese Space/Prog Rock Album.
For fans of early PINK FLOYD, KING CRIMSON but also the classic Italian Giallo/Horror composers FABIO FRIZZI (JOSÉ CID's keyboards reminds me of FRIZZI's "The Beyond" soundtrack) and GOBLIN (CLAUDIO SIMONETTI).

Listen to full Album here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otfChsCRGf8

(WARNING: Do NOT listen to any other JOSÉ CID's work besides this LP. The other CID's work may causes profound disillusion and brain cancer.)

Also in the Portuguese Prog Rock spectre:

1977's TANTRA "Mistérios E Maravilhas" LP.
Prog Rock with heavy keyboard usage.

So much prog rock is very weak. I want to hear something heavy rock oriented.

Anekdoten has some awesome records/songs in a bit similar style, but how about some darker prog like this Landberk:

I think some guys from Anekdoten also played in Morte Macabre. Symphonic Holocaust is awesome, unfortunately it's expensive

Epitaph was heavy for their era:

Not sure if Atomic Rooster or Captain Beyond have been mentioned, but they both had some beef to their sounds:

Morte Macabre is indeed great, glad I bought the vinyl from Anekdoten gig back when it was released, seems to be expensive these days + the vinyl has one track more than the cd-version.

Well... I think there is a difference between Prog Rock and Prog Metal.
This one has been mentioned before but 1974's KING CRIMSON "Red" LP is pretty Heavy for his time.

This was their last full-length before they broke up for the first time.

This album even has one song named "Fallen Angel": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pak-2NqRqV0

I don't need to re-read this thread but Van Der Graaf Generator could bring some heavy fuckin' grooves to their music when they wanted too.... obviously they've been mentioned but maybe they haven't been mentioned enough

H To He Who Am The Only One and The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other you shall not be deterred
