One of my favourite genres. Italian metal in general has always been a highly unique and underappreciated movement within metal, starting with the old Italian doom masters and their mixture of influences from Italian psych bands, the atmosphere of Italian giallo / horror cinema and religious imagery stemming from the massive influence of Catholicism in Italian society. These pioneers later informed subsquent bands such as Mortuary Drape and Necromass.

DEATH SS - Chains of Death

PAUL CHAIN - 17th Day

BLACK HOLE - Blind Men and Occult Forces

RUN AFTER TO - Run After To

SACRILEGE - Voodoo Ritual

What are your favourite Italo Doom bands?

Abysmal Grief

Monumentum, not very horror oriented...

Perhaps it doesn't fit completely in here but every time people talk about Italy in relation to horror and music I find they forget to (or choose not to) mention Devil Doll. More infamous than famous and perhaps even more Slovenian or Hungarian than Italian. Who knows?!

and Fuoco Fatuo whose black doom hybrid is distinctly Italian as well. I was very surprised when I found out about this band about six months ago.

Black Capricorn are decent. A bit more on the fuzzy stoner side. I like my Italian doom more gothic/horror based.

Epitaph are a cool one that have gotten back together recently.

The Black are the mad notes. Check out Golgotha and Peccatis Nostris/Capistrani Pugnator.

Paul Chain is my favourite. Not much to say about him other that his doom metal is among the best ever.

Not as doomridden as other acts mentioned but... Sinoath.
Getting doomier as their discography progesses. I was surprised by Under The Ashes.

Requiem too. Mario's pre-The Black band. Not as doomy. A little more 80's metal. The Black are better, but it's interesting stuff.

We've done our best to create a symbol/brand for Italian Doom.

This is going on the back of the RUN AFTER TO t-shirt

How do you like it?

A brand for Italian doom... really?

I'd rather just see a front print only on a shirt than including a pointless backprint.
