Influence or not, the band had a track released on a comp in 1997', demo in 1998 full length album in demo tape form in early 1999 and disbanded later in 1999, so timeframe-wise definitely. Despite the time of existence though, we were not at all interested in being part of any scenes and thought the usbm tag was idiotic so we didn't really do anything to promote ourselves or be in contact with anyone tagging themselves as "usbm". We did manage to play gigs with Mayhem and Enslaved, and a few usbm bands like Corvus Corax, Black Goat, and Thy Infernal. More often we just played with local bands doing something metal, or heavy, or dark like like Amber Asylum, Noothgrush, Noisegate, Exhumed, Slough Feg, Vile ... simply because there were almost no black metal bands around here.

I don't think you need to justify/clarify your "place" or lack of place in whatever "scene", John. Your work stands alone, I think, and really benefits from that isolation. It's one of those records that really does properly defy simple classification. Perhaps one of the last? The BM "spirit" is clearly there, though, and I'd argue it's there stronger than in most apparently "pure" BM records. There's a desperation there that you really don't hear much at all from other bands. It's funny reading about these bands who are apparently influenced by DAD. I don't hear it, personally. Certainly not in WITTR or somesuch. There was/is something unique about Dead As Dreams.

Well said on all counts.

Damn, now that I think about it I haven't heard some of these bands mentioned in years.

Some good news though, Blood Storm has been picked up by Barbarian Wrath who will release their new album and get this, re-issue the back catalogue.

Yeah true, not a whole lot of people got into this band - once it happens though I'm definitely getting The Atlantean Wardragon and Pestilence From The Dragonstar. Missed out on those last time.

Remember when Xasthur became hyped, endless fights on FMP boards.

I just nabbed some CDS from them, Krieg, Judas Iscariot, Xasthur, all very decently priced.

I love Blood Storm and this new album news is great. And I would definitely buy the reissues if they were on vinyl. I already have the original cds and I'm quite satisfied with them.

Just because they influenced a lot of shit bands doesn't make them shit. Though I don't think they're nearly as influential as the hipster media makes them out to be, I do really like Dead as Dreams. It's pretty unique in my opinion in that it has a very powerful, almost martial atmosphere.

I always thought this band was pretty good back in those days. Don't know if many people heard of them but it was definitely some of the better USBM In my Opinion.

Dead by Morning (1998-2000) changed name to The Cold Beyond (2000-present)

This song was from the year 2000

yeah, they always were pretty cheap in price, spent a lot of money there hehe And I always got my stuff in 2 days and free shipping as well, at least back then.

I just remember buying from Stage 3 and Wild Rags back in 94-95

i was in this band hatewave back in the mid to late 90s. nobody really seemed to like us too much in chicago at the time. got pretty good reviews of our demo internationally and had offers from sounds of death mag and listenable to put stuff out . . . we weren't really straight BM, but more influenced by war metal, sadistik exekution and shit like that. whatever. we put out a demo and an lp (with bad production that ruined our sound) and called it quits in '99.

Yeah it never bothered me if they inspired certain bands or not. I like Dead As Dreams a lot. Hopefully I can get it on wax someday. I just know how a lot of metal heads here are about hipsterism in metal.

Has Noctuary been mentioned yet. At one time they were getting quite a bit of press. I had the second album and didnt get into much so I never checked any further with the band.
