What is the best Evoken in your eyes? I remember a long time ago, a friend sent me some mp3's of Evoken's "Quietus" album, and I was hooked! Soon after I traded tapes with Keith Dempe of Eternal Darkness Creations for an Embrace the Emptiness cassette, and I loved it! Soon after that I bought up all the cds I could. This band can do no wrong I think, every album they release is a masterpiece in some way. And here is a confession: Awhile back I was having a lonesome night of drunkenness, and I happened to be listening to Descent Into Chaotic Dream (from Atra Mors) and it brought tears to my eyes! That is pretty amazing when a band can do that to me. So I think this band Evoken only got heavier over the years, and I'm curious what they will do next!
Now here is a video interview with them, conducted by a (somewhat drunken) interviewer, haha!:

you mean in terms of the show? it was fucking killer, i don't really know what else to say haha. no one else seemed to be into it, which is dumb, but i'm not really surprised since the show was strangely part of a primarily hipster festival.
Sleep actually played right after, which was also great!
Merzbow had his own set 2 nights ago, which i missed because of some bullshit. |

Quietus overall I'd reckon its a better mixture of atmosphere and great riffs, but the band's material overall is great. A Caress of the void lost me toward the end but its a great album, and Atra Mors is tales Quietus only by a little bit. _________________

Is this the soundtrack of The Emoji Movie? Seems fitting as both are cancer incarnate. |

Quietus was my introduction and is still my favourite mainly for the complete Disembowelment worship. Of the newer stuff I really love the tracks from the split with Beneath The Frozen Soil _________________ www.mendicantmusic.com |

The Roadburn '11 performance was probably the heaviest one i've seen to date. My vote goes to Embrace the Emptiness. |

From the sounds of it I probably need to revisit Quietus. A Caress The Void was my introduction to the band, it was close between that and Antithesis of Light, but A Caress The Void won out. |

Quietus, mostly because it was the first album by Evoken that I heard. All of the material by them is great though. I will have to search for a video of that performance with Merzbow. |

My vote as well. This one needs a vinyl release. _________________

Really like Shades of Night...., one of the few doom things that gives dISEMBOWELMENT a serious run for its money in my eyes _________________

Went with Quietus for exactly the same reasons.. bought it when it came out and totally opened a new level for me for doom.. although I do actually probably listen to their last couple albums a lot more.. they're all fucking amazing. Best american death/doom band ever. |
