I'll probably always have a soft spot for Opeth but I'm not feeling Heritage much. That being said, the songs rip live. |

I'm a big fan of his classic quartet but In A Silent Way, Bitches Brew, Jack Johnson et all is some next level music..... not really fair to call it "fusion" though as that era was so original and is miles (ho ho) away from what's typically regarded as fusion...... I dunno, I don't expect it to be everyones cup of tea but those records are mother fucking next level....... |
Miles Davis is outstanding.
Bought this thing and love it.

Can't listen to jazz that often, but every time i put on a Miles Davis album i love it. One of my favourite artists ever. _________________ "If noise means uncomfortable sound. Then pop is noise to me" - Masami Akita. |

I like Opeth quite alot, except for their two first albums. The album in question is amazing. _________________

For a nice analog sound also check out Velnias' RuneEater
Quote: | The second opus of the Colorado Blackened Folk Doom Horde is entitled RuneEater and has been captured through entirely analog means between the 7th and 11th of November 2011 at Hiroshi House Studio.
The analog integrity of the recording shall be preserved as it is mixed and mastered from the 2" tape on which the album has been recorded to 1/2" tape and in the end cut straight to lacquer. |
Also musically pretty decent stuff, not your average US hipster bm band. |

Deliverance took me a while to get behind, but now it's among my favorites of theirs. The opening riff from Master's Apprentice is among the most perfect things in metal.
Ghost Reveries is garbage though. |

Ghost Reveries may take a bit to get into, but it is not garbage. Though imo, Watershed is a bit better. |

I really gabe it a fair chance, I really like the prog elements they incorporate but I jump shop at the John McLaughlan-esque freakouts however..... it wasn't doing it for me...... |
The difference is that McLaughlin can play. These clowns just write dull, uninspired garbage. |
This. My problem with Opeth has always been that the majority of their fans haven't a clue that there's huge portions of their music lifted from other bands. The production of the last one IS great, but personally I found the vocals to be really boring and emotionless, and the songs to sound like a mess of good 70s prog bands thrown together in an incoherent mess. |

I don't think it was too incoherent, but it was a bit derivative, which was a real shame after Watershed, which is easily my favourite of their albums. I found it a bit sad that they decided to go too far in the prog direction. |
