Going For The One is probably the most underrated one, but yes, Relayer is amazing. That said, everything they did between 71-80 (with the exception of Tormato) is pure gold. |

Relayer is definitely THE BEST Yes Album! The whole thing is just one big high school nostalgia trip for me. Driving around after class, smoking weed in my car. |

all these Finnish posters just reminded me of another personal favorite not yet mentioned...
Fantasia- S/T
fucking great, and was finally reissued a couple years back. this was extremely hard to find/expensive to obtain in the states previously. not sure how closely it relates to Tarkus, just a great Finnish prog band regardless!

Anekdoten and Landberk are cool of course, though in a totally different ballpark. bestial bass attack on Anekdoten too (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMgUicXgFGA). check out Morte Macabre for perfect 70s zombie worship prog from some of the same musicians.
the true answer is probably Van der Graaf. everything up to "Still Life", skipping the first record which was a bit more rooted in Beatles style psych sillyness. and what everyone into Van der Graaf needs to hear is Peter Hammill's solo stuff. for this board "Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night", "The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage" and "In Camera". if you're enough of a bestial warbeast for the most heartbreaking breakup document listen "Over" at reasonable volume in dark room!!!!! if you're existentialist post-punk warrior with prog loincloth listen "Enter K" at own peril. _________________

This is the pure truth. I have the VDGG discography filed, and 20 years since discovering them, they are still splattering my brains all over the wall, including Hammill's solo work. "Over" is absolutely gruelling on an emotional level.
Their final live album is also the most caustic prog record ever made. |

Lots of great recommendations – Anglagard, Camel, Balletto Di Bronzo, VdGG, Orme, PFM – all classic bands. Next to metal, prog is by far my favorite genre. The genre is incredibly deep, with all sorts of sub-genres including RIO, Zeuhl, Symphonic, etc.
Hundreds of amazing bands came out of Italy. Here are some of the best not already listed:
Metamorfosi - Inferno

Museo Rosenbach - Zarathustra

Osanna - Palepoli

Cervello – Melos

Semiramis – Dedicato a frazz

Biglietto Per l'Inferno – S/T

Nice! my finnish pal picked up this Fantasia S/T for me a couple years back... definitely not a Svart release, but regardless, the Svart reissues have been KILLING me lately. so good! really nice job they did on the Kaaos reissue EP. I was also extremely pleased with all the Kollaa Kestaa reissues, along with Musta Paraati too. seriously, whoever is at the helm over there, or calling the shots, has some EXTREMELY good taste. I'll try to keep an eye out for these Prog reissues too. I'm guessing based off past reissues, whatever it is, it will be good
@ YK. of course Yes is fruity as hell... this goes without saying. hopefully you didnt pay more than $3 a pop for this stuff _________________ trade-want list/available list- http://www.nwnprod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20339 |
