Well, when I read the topic's title I first thought that lots of you were going to confess that you´re listening to Justin Bieber, Madonna or similar things.

I wouldn't feel ashamed if I say that I'm listening to Current 93, CSNY or Dead Can Dance (in fact, I saw them live this weekend here in Chile for the second time).

There are lots of non-metal bands that I listen to, for example:

Dead Can Dance
Stevie Ray Vaughan
punk rock bands such as The Casualties, Misfits, etc.
Steve Roach
Triarii

Underground trance can bring a lot of the same atmospheres and harmonies as the best of black metal.

Psytrance is incredible stuff. Too many artists of other genres as well to list here.

The chicks that didn't mind anal listened to AFI by the way. Correlation, perhaps?

could you recommend some good trance for someone who has really never heard any?

Straightforward space-themed trance: ARTIFACT303
Psychedelic ambient: BLUETECH
Psychedelic glitch hop: TIPPER
Psychedelic trance: DERANGO, PSYKOVSKY

Try LSD on the beach, preferably with women around you.

Loving these, especially psykovsky. thanks for turning me on to a new genre

You may enjoy the down-tempo deep trance sound as well, if you like psychedelic trance. Listen to KAMINANDA for free in your choice of fidelity:

Ektoplazm is an excellent resource for free albums in these styles, for future reference.

There are many more artists in these electronic styles than metal so it is impossible to list everything. Ektoplazm has a fifty-artist "best of" you can download here, to familiarize yourself with many of the variations of the psychedelic sound:

Maybe more of a guilty pleasure, but for some reason I love the song/video to "Self Control" by Laura Branegan. This bitch was perverted back before it was cool to be perverted.
