Here is one trend that I back because the bands are worth it: all of the new love and adoration of AUTOPSY and BOLT THROWER.

I have been in the DM world for over 20 years, and trust me, AUTOPSY and BOLT THROWER were not nearly as loved from 1990-1995 as the have been since say 2009 to now.

Definitely not the case in the UK, particularly with Bolt Thrower. I can't think of a time when Bolt Thrower weren't revered, either by fans or the press.

And this is the observation from someone who isn't even that much of a fan.

When Those Once Loyal came out they were playing the Underworld- 500 capacity and it wasn't even full. Now they are playing the Forum- 2000 capacity.

-Having sex - Fucking trendy, everyone does it, even 13 year old kids for fuck's sake.
-Playing guitar - Do I really need to explain myself on this one? This trend needs to fuck off.
-Having a band - You think you're soooo cool because you play in one? Fuck off, you little show-off faggot. Not having a band = more obscure.

Pretty much hit the nail in the head here...

Unless I'm terribly mistaken, metal (in the traditional sense) wasn't that popular in the UK in general until 2-3 years ago or so. I don't think that's the case with BT solely.

This is absolutely true. They definitely weren't considered a mandatory band and you didn't see a BT shirt or patch on every third kid at a show like today.

I can think of four people I knew back in the 90s who were crazy about Bolt Thrower and I'm one of them. Knew plenty of other metalheads, but the Bolt Thrower fanatics were few and far between.

What all four of us had in common was a background in Warhammer and other tabletop games. We all checked out BT for the name and kept listening for the awesomeness.

Both Autopsy and Bolt Thrower were quite popular and respected here in the 90ies.

Surely way more than Incantation.

The following can suck it:
- bands who ONLY MAKE CASSETTES

A bit out of the loop but are there bands that strictly only release on tape intentionally? Like that decline label offers for vinyl/cd editions?

Bands with tape only discographies probably cannot afford to do vinyl and maybe no label interest to help them. I know some bands try to kvlt by not releasing "commercial" CD versions, but i can't think of some who also reject vinyl as well.

CD-Rs are DIRT CHEAP!
For a new band of any genre looking to get their name out etc. doing a "cassette only" demo pretty much shoots down getting new fans by about 90%. Doing it for "Cult" reasons = GAY.

What about a cassette demo + free digital availability? Personally I think this is a nice way to keep things traditional while also recognizing that its not 1983 .

I think that's a cool idea.
