Sceptic (Poland) - Pathetic Being, also Blind Existence

Not as fusion-ish but fairly progressive mid- to late 90s DM.
Just saw that they are still active, no idea how the two new albums sound.

Absolutely worth a check to italian ALTERED VISION on their split with Putrefy. Sadlythe only great stuff because on their full length change their sound to pathetic and useless power metal.

Thormenthor - Abstract Divinity
Very similar to Cynic instrumentally, and it also has occasional clean vocal parts. Pretty cool stuff.

Wicked Innocence - Omnipotence is also worth checking out for something similar to Gorguts - Obscura. WI might actually sound even stranger than Gorguts...

Had to upload this myself cause it wasn't even on there. Some other person has uploaded another track from that demo.

Ukraine's Phantasmagory are pure Spheres worship.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6Hb90l4mWs

For the Atheist thing you can pick Alarum, one of the most technical bands ever.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeE-9zBx234

Neglected Fields play some great fusion inspired death with some great Jeff Walker kind of vocals.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnSrYAz-jFk

The legendary Sadist needs no introduction. Those brutal and technical riffs, the giallo synths and the atmosphere are just beyond amazing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueWcetrlVMY

And Mindwork has some great Masdival riffing on their debut.

Hope this might help you. Also Vuvr is mandatory.

My two fav in this style are OBLIVEON (Can) and SADIST (Ita). Both are really underrated in my ears!

From what I recall Pavor's 'A Pale Debilitating Autumn' would be worth checking out.

I just picked up a double CD by the Spanish band absorbed on xtreem .

Not very heavy but it certainly has a bit of pestilence and cynic going on .

We have a Belarusian band called Serdce, new release coming out. Thing is absolutely amazing Cynic spin-off type band. Truly incredible progdeath album. You can check their earlier work, but it doesn't even compare to this. Expect early next year. It will really likely turn some heads, we're insanely impressed with it.
