Underwhelming.

I've been interested in NON/Boyd Rice since the 90s, so it was good to finally see him live. The performance, however, didn't really make much of an impression. It seemed mechanical and without any passion. I've seen far more impressive industrial/PE sets over the years.

Ultimately, I think it was a bookend on a chapter of my life. I stopped finding Boyd Rice interesting a few years ago when I put him in perspective. Capitalists starve something close to 100 million people in an average decade. Western democracies fund and arm death squads and child armies in the third world to make sure that plutocrats keep getting paid. It's hard to take seriously a guy who acts like he's being the bad guy by saying nice things about Hitler and wearing t-shirts that say "RAPE" in this context. He's a cartoon villain for people with a narrow picture of the world. Seeing his limp performance last month was the perfect way to extinguish any lingering attachment I might have had to his art.

same here, almost exactly. My interest started after I've read an interview with Mr Rice in "Answer Me!", and I still listen to "in the shadow of the sword", but the live set was - underwhelming to be kind. to be honest, it had a slapstick approach to it. starting from the audience (some sort of flight attendant meeting) to the supporting acts (polish wanna be neurosis band called "jude") to a 45minute changeover - that's correct, 45 minutes to set up a microphone and a beamer - and ending in Mr Rice knocking over his effect pedals, his hat and his bass during the performance.
