Been listing to Akitsa's "Au crépuscule de l'espérance" this evening and was wondering who some of y'all's fave Québécois BM bands area. I've been in a classic thrash goat's ass for the past few months and think i slept on some good shit.

Two recent demos that spring to mind are Cultemort's La Messe du Diable and Tombeau's Méphistophallique.

I never got into Akitsa or a lot of the other big names from around that area, but I do enjoy Malveillance a lot.

I know it's not mega obscure, and barely black metal, but The Die Is Cast by Menace Ruine is one of my favourite records of the last few years. I can't say this enough evidently.....

It's a great album. Cult of Ruins before it was good as well, and is MUCH more black metal.

Yeah! I really liked all of the Menace Ruine I've heard.

Did you order from a USA distro? The cultmort and Tombeau sound excellent. In fact, I'm streaming a bunch of stuff on tdghq and heretic productions and it all sounds fucking excellent.

I think Fallen Empire got copies of the Tombeau, but I'm not entirely sure. He posts here regularly and the link to his distro is in his sig, I don't have it off hand, sorry. I got mine from TDG, it was like 9 dollars after shipping, which isn't awful.

The Cultemort was/is limited to something real small like 50 and was sold at Les Productions Hérétiques exclusively.

Both of those are great, especially the Cultemort tape.

Frozen Shadows and Akitsa are my favourite.
Some recommendations: Tenebrae's demo from 1994, Shade - Isa MCD and Rivière du Nord's demo from 2008.
There are tons of black metal bands in the scene now. Some are really good like Forteresse, Monarque and Gris. But there is also a lot of mediocre stuff.

I sold out of my copies.

Quebec rules. Lots of great bands up there. Sepulchral Productions and Les Productions Heretiques are my favorite labels, and Versets Noirs is another strong new label.

Akitsa, Forteresse, Deliquescence, Sorcier des Glaces & Verglas for me. Menace Ruine, while certainly far from black metal after the demo tape, are an absolutely incredible act.

Everything from :
+MALÉFICES+

Other great bands from Québec are of course :
- MONARQUE
- NEIGE ET NOIRCEUR
- CSEJTHE
- DÉLIQUESCENCE
- DÉLÉTÈRE
... and also THESYRE, in a more Thrash vein.

The Stella Polaris demo is worth grabbing if you can still find it

also, Der Misanthrope/Frost/Stone Dwarf/etc (of which I do have a couple copies also available on my trade/sale list Cool a couple Akitsa EPs too...)
