I wonder if in a month Ghost will go back to being a shit band or whatever. OE was cool, might pick this up if I come across it.

I have little to no experience with FMP posters, but from what I can tell a lot of this current crap discussion belongs on sites like metal archives... though admittedly I was beyond burnt on the overwhelming amount brutal "goatfago" discussions prior to the pure shit posts of recent (though I may have been naive to hope for something otherwise considering the host label caters to this style as the primary focus it seems) perhaps we are blind to the fact we are posted up on a sinking ship? to think I started out mostly hoping to acquire "relevant" trade contacts.

I am a bit surprised the praise this album is getting. Even the most jaded of metal-heads like it. It's a great album nonetheless and I could give a fuck if I lost points for saying that. Great songwriting through and through. It's a very different album then Opus to say the least. It is almost like if Goblin and The Beach Boys got together to jam on some Blue Oyster Cult tunes.

I think I had just left during the goatfago stuff. Then again, back then a lot of the discussions also revolved around NWN releases, collector mentality, and just talking about black metal bands.
Now, threads are either about bands which do not belong here or people hijack others' threads to troll.

yes, a forum full of tools. sad, really

It would be interesting to dig the old Ghost threads and see which poseurs used to bash this band to death then and now are suddenly worshipping them instead.

And yes, this forum is 99% poseurs now. I guess it's the fate of all metal-related discussion boards. Remember when FMP used to be the kvltest of the kvlt?

truly embarrassing.... and we wonder why so many quality posters, etc have abandoned the forum rapidly in the past 6+ months...

I think that happened when NK7 joined....
This place was a lot better 1-2 years ago.

Edit: you joined exactly one year after I did Shocked

you might be onto something there... I was a lurker for a long time before I "took the plunge" so I guess I should take that into account. still the climate has changed RAPIDLY just in the past year alone

I dont see it.
The "twas better before" is probably the most common cliché in the universe and appears in about EVERY topic/field on the planet from the month/fingers of EVERY fucker on the planet.

NBA? Twas better before, Michael Jordan maaaaaan
Stamps? Twas better before
HipHop? Twas better before, NWA till I die
Art? Twas better before
Litterature? Twas better before
Black metal? Twas better before
Porn might be the only exception though I'm sure many would say: twas better before, hairs and real tits...

It was always better before.
Funny part is I've been here since late 2009 and the only constant thing about this forum is users saying "THE FORUM HAS GONE DOWN THE DRAIN FMP STYLE..."
Always the same shit, the same complaint ever since
"Now it´s full of posers!"
Bullshit

Concerning Ghost I, for one, have since the beginning admitted I enjoyed them. Never "worshipped" them though and never will. But yeah digging the old thread could be fun.

well if we blasted back far enough, ghost wouldn't even exist.... I've been furiously clicking my heels, but it seems to make no difference.

...and this is how the majority of people judge a band/release these days. Pathetic.

I really liked the GHOST 7" and the debut LP and still do.
BUT - I have listened to most of the new record on YouTube and like someone said a few posts prior, "Infestissumam" is not nearly as good as the debut. I will give it some more spins, but the beauty of the first record was I was hooked on the first listen. I have a feeling if I buy this one, I will listen to it twice and not go back to it.

It seems that magic did not happen twice.

Ahh, humour me and tell me why my view that Secular Haze is a fucking terrible song is pathetic.

Exactly.

It's very sugary, and very poppy, but with a rotten undertone. In this respect, it's actually a lot darker than much 'extreme' metal. And I like the whole 'pied piper mocking the children of modern culture' thing. That's why it's so hilarious and awesome that they're playing Coachella. "Suffer the little children" indeed.

Also, their live performance is fantastic, and really inseparable from the music itself. I saw them in LA last Monday - brilliant!

I can understand why people think it's overhyped, or why they might dislike it... but 'materialistic'?

Well consumerism comes to mind i suppose, they are everywhere, even the youtube commercials someone else posted about in another thread. Materialistic wasn't the right word for it.
