Didn't they say that the album was going to be a mix between Symphonies and Necroticism?

they've said the missing link between necro and heartwork

Fuck that, I like the idea of middle aged guys playing pissed off gory grind, but not the idea of middle aged guys playing what is essentially melodeath.

does anyone really expect much good to come out of a carcass album released 18 years after their last album?

Why not?
Right now Carcass is Bill, Jeff and the guy from Aborted (Amott and Erlandsson went after their main band). The whole album is composed by Bill and I trust his taste

Dead Infection rules!

But, come on, it's obvious the new album won't sound like their pre-Necroticism stuff. I even doubt other people will qualify it as "the missing link". But I'm personally interested in the result, anyway, cause I like Steer's work.

Btw, I don't see why some people have problems with Swansong, Firebird or Gentleman Pistols. That's just another type of stuff. Same story with Xysma, for instance

Also Bill is doing vocals on the new album, so it should be a nod towards older stuff. After all, Bill didn't sing on the two last albums. So unless Bill and Jeff have decided to go for clean harmonies a'la The Beatles, the new album should be alright. I'll check it out for sure.

From Metal Injection:
"As for vocals, there will be Necroticism style growls on the new album courtesy of guitarist Bill Steer and Walker promises more range for his own vocal performance."

He's also been doing vocals for Firebird, so...

It doesn't matter who mixes it. Their albums have gotten progressively worse since Heartwork. This should be the absolute worst album of them all.

They released only one album after Heartwork.

I'd rather have the missing link between Swansong and Blackstar Rising.

Yeah, I'm aware numbnuts. I meant two progressively worse albums since the last decent album they did which is Necrotocism.

In general bands that go nearly 20 years of inactivity then decide to make a new album doesn't go too well, moreso considering this band was already past their prime then by most people's ears. I know some will like this, many will compare it to their past records and therefore not have much good to say, but its one of those situations where i find it hard to even care about this album as much as the plenty of albums that are coming out this year and probably much more relevant and interesting than a classic band bringing themselves back.

I'll continue to hope for the best but expect the worst. I liked Heartwork, if they made something like that and just put really shitty sounding production over it I'd be happy.
