very cool stuff, but I've got a (not sure if pertinent) question: why are they going to be out via UA and not DD?

I mean, after the announcement of the first 2 signings, I thought UA would be more focused at trash-crossover stuff, but since TRENCHROT is death metal, is there a reason to add them to UA and not DD?

I'm not going to be entirely thrash-oriented, though it does happen that the first two bands out of the gate are clearly pretty much pure thrash. Death/thrash is my main love - stuff like Sadus, Messiah, Merciless, Kreator, Electrocution, etc. - so that's meant to be the core of the label with other releases branching out (but not too far) from that. Whereas DDR is focused farther away from thrash and more on heavy, suffocating death metal with a capital D, capital M (though that's not all THEY do, either).

For the most part - I'm not going to be seeking out pure death metal acts. But if they sound like old death metal with some thrash in its veins, and it's not overlapping too much with Dark Descent, then I'll release it. The label is named in a roundabout way for an Autopsy album after all, so we're not totally death metal-averse. If I can find bands playing in the style of "Scream Bloody Gore" or "Severed Survival" or "Seven Churches," I'm all about that. But if I get a demo from a good band with the classic Finland sound or that sounds anything like Adversarial, I'm referring them to Matt. Hopefully it will clear itself up over time. Smile

First reviews of "I Blame You" are starting to appear - this one from Queens of Steel gives it a 9/10: http://www.queensofsteel.com/2013/03/birth-a-d-i-blame-you/ In Spanish but a quick spin through Babefish tells me they have nice things to say.

CD should be shipping to me and Dark Descent any day now - the artwork is already printed (and looks great).

Besieged coming soon! CD is at press and will be back this month. Official release date is July 9th everywhere. If you're a fan of rippingly fast death/thrash (early/good Sepultura, Insanity, Sadus, Dark Angel, etc.) go listen...

General updates:

- Besieged CD is out now. It will start arriving in other distros and shops around the 9th of July, our official distributor's release date, but you can order now from Dark Descent (http://www.darkdescentrecords.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12&products_id=3155) or from my eBay listing (http://www.ebay.com/itm/121112001957?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649). Sample track of their particular brand of death/thrash here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyezfvY8xcg

- Birth A.D. still available, and should be starting to appear in various distros. Sample track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETjTks4xSkw

- Our next release will be a 7" by black/crust act Angelcrust. The recording is done, we're just waiting on the mastering to be done and then it will be a quick pass through layout and off to press. This is a co-release between us and Grim Winds Records, and is expected to be back this summer, at some point. Two unmastered tracks here (the release will have many more - they're short!): https://soundcloud.com/angelcrust/sets/sdibroughmixes

- Trench Rot is still hard at work on their debut album, projected for a fall release. Here is their full demo via Bandcamp and Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Trenchrotdeathmetal/app_204974879526524

- In talks with a couple of other bands, including one name that many here will be excited by. More news when things are locked in - stay tuned.

Thanks, it'll go out very soon. Because fortunately my day job gives me plenty of time to print shipping labels and send out packages.

And actually, I've got another announcement to make... Dark Descent and I are co-releasing the long, LONG-awaited follow-up to Insanity (US)'s album "Death After Death." Think I'll post a new thread with details.

Got an official web site now - http://unspeakableaxerecords.com

In case you're not inclined to spend time on Facebook, and/or think that calling it Gaybook is the height of hilarity.

General updates:

- In late summer or early fall, we'll co-release a 7" by blackened powerviolence band Angelcrust. Our partner on this will be Grim Winds Records. Angelcrust: https://www.facebook.com/Angelcrust

- In the same approximate time frame, we'll release a split 7" by Australian band Sewercide, and Italian band GloryHole. Both play heavy, fast death/thrash - I'd say Sewercide leans more toward the Demolition Hammer style, and GloryHole a little more toward Massacra/early Morbid Angel stuff. Sewercide: https://www.facebook.com/Sewercide GloryHole: https://www.facebook.com/GloryHolethrash

- Coming not long after should be a reissue of Eternal Dirge's debut CD from the early 90s, "Morbus Ascendit." These Germans played slightly proggish death/thrash with some interesting ideas and occasional synth parts. We'll also be including some demo material as bonus tracks. Here's a song from the album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnFjXkuyVK4

- Later this year, we'll release the debut full-length from Philadelphia death metal act Trench Rot. They play a style that kind of blends Swedish death metal and Asphyx, with somewhat of a war theme, if you can't tell from the name. Here's their demo (recently released on cassette): http://trenchrotdeathmetal.bandcamp.com/

- And in late 2013 or early 2014, we also will co-release (with Dark Descent, who is handling the LP) Insanity's second album, "Visions of Apocalypse." This is long overdue and should be a monster.

All the updates that are fit to print:

- We have new signings. Omnivore from Italy play - or rather played, as they are now split up - high-speed death thrash with insane riffing. So, right up my alley. We'll release the album they had recorded prior to breaking up. Here's a track.

- Also, Algebra from Switzerland are hard at work on their sophomore full-length after the well-received "Polymorph." No-nonsense thrash metal with nods to various masters of the genre and their own approach layered on top. Here's the title track from "Polymorph."

- We will release a compilation of all recorded material to date (plus hopefully a new bonus track or two) from the inheritors to the throne of Demoltion Hammer, Laceration. This is their most recent material from a split with Tinnitus.

- And last from the new signings, Morgengrau from Austin, TX play old school, Euro-style death metal - think Pestilence, Asphyx and you're in the neighborhood. They self-released their debut in 2013 and we'll release their follow-up album in summer 2014. Here's a song from "Extrinsic Pathway."

- Other updates: Sewercide/Presumed Dead split 7" will be out around the end of the year. So will LPs of Birth AD and Besieged. The Trench Rot CD was slightly delayed due to scheduling conflicts with the studio, but they're almost done recording now and the artwork is being finalized as well. Angelcrust 7" was delayed massively due to problems with the mix - the guy doing it has been replaced and hopefully that will be resolved soon. Finally, Insanity is currently tracking the new album and on pace to deliver it by early next year as hoped.

I'd love to release anything at all from them, but I suppose if they wanted to, they'd have a label ready to go. In other words they might be a little over my head at this stage.

On December 2 at 1 PM EST, the Unspeakable Contest begins, and one day later it ends. You'll be asked to identify some songs from short snippets (10-15 seconds) and answer some trivia questions about metal. No more details than that until the day arrives. Top three get prizes - 3rd place gets their choice of a CD, LP, 7" or Besieged shirt; 2nd place gets their choice from the above plus a test pressing of Sewercide/Presumed Dead as well; and 1st gets two choices plus a test pressing. We'll be looking for highest scoring total on the quiz, with ties resolved by who submitted their answers first.

Prizes will go out after our upcoming releases are in stock (including Sewercide/Presumed Dead, Besieged and Birth AD LPs, and hopefully the Trench Rot CD as well), so you'll be able to pick from a slightly larger inventory than I've got right now. Spread the word if you're so inclined, and keep an eye on this page.
