very cool stuff, but I've got a (not sure if pertinent) question: why are they going to be out via UA and not DD?
I mean, after the announcement of the first 2 signings, I thought UA would be more focused at trash-crossover stuff, but since TRENCHROT is death metal, is there a reason to add them to UA and not DD? |
I'm not going to be entirely thrash-oriented, though it does happen that the first two bands out of the gate are clearly pretty much pure thrash. Death/thrash is my main love - stuff like Sadus, Messiah, Merciless, Kreator, Electrocution, etc. - so that's meant to be the core of the label with other releases branching out (but not too far) from that. Whereas DDR is focused farther away from thrash and more on heavy, suffocating death metal with a capital D, capital M (though that's not all THEY do, either).
For the most part - I'm not going to be seeking out pure death metal acts. But if they sound like old death metal with some thrash in its veins, and it's not overlapping too much with Dark Descent, then I'll release it. The label is named in a roundabout way for an Autopsy album after all, so we're not totally death metal-averse. If I can find bands playing in the style of "Scream Bloody Gore" or "Severed Survival" or "Seven Churches," I'm all about that. But if I get a demo from a good band with the classic Finland sound or that sounds anything like Adversarial, I'm referring them to Matt. Hopefully it will clear itself up over time. _________________

First reviews of "I Blame You" are starting to appear - this one from Queens of Steel gives it a 9/10: http://www.queensofsteel.com/2013/03/birth-a-d-i-blame-you/ In Spanish but a quick spin through Babefish tells me they have nice things to say.
CD should be shipping to me and Dark Descent any day now - the artwork is already printed (and looks great). _________________

General updates:
- Besieged CD is out now. It will start arriving in other distros and shops around the 9th of July, our official distributor's release date, but you can order now from Dark Descent (http://www.darkdescentrecords.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12&products_id=3155) or from my eBay listing (http://www.ebay.com/itm/121112001957?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649). Sample track of their particular brand of death/thrash here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyezfvY8xcg
- Birth A.D. still available, and should be starting to appear in various distros. Sample track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETjTks4xSkw
- Our next release will be a 7" by black/crust act Angelcrust. The recording is done, we're just waiting on the mastering to be done and then it will be a quick pass through layout and off to press. This is a co-release between us and Grim Winds Records, and is expected to be back this summer, at some point. Two unmastered tracks here (the release will have many more - they're short!): https://soundcloud.com/angelcrust/sets/sdibroughmixes
- Trench Rot is still hard at work on their debut album, projected for a fall release. Here is their full demo via Bandcamp and Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Trenchrotdeathmetal/app_204974879526524
- In talks with a couple of other bands, including one name that many here will be excited by. More news when things are locked in - stay tuned. _________________

Thanks, it'll go out very soon. Because fortunately my day job gives me plenty of time to print shipping labels and send out packages.
And actually, I've got another announcement to make... Dark Descent and I are co-releasing the long, LONG-awaited follow-up to Insanity (US)'s album "Death After Death." Think I'll post a new thread with details. _________________
