It's certainly not as good as the previous LP's and you could even say it's not Death Metal anymore, but I think it's got a bunch of good songs and is certainly better than any of their comeback albums. |
CMB is actually my fave Pungent Stench lp and I agree that calling it a sell-out is unfair. It does sound extremely different from the early records though, in that sense it's not too wrong to say it's PS's black album. _________________ Permabanned |

Besides, Morgoth had already wimped out with Odium. _________________ Permabanned |

when it came out, I was balls-deep into Samael's Passage.

As true as that might be the change of style was as dramatic as Pyogenesis'. The "Death Metal is dead, we need to broaden our horizon" craze was in full bloom back then. _________________ There is a country called Tír na N Óg, which means the Country of the Young, for age and death have not found it; neither tears and loud laughter have gone near it. Spot on, its hard to come up with a band which did not try to hop on the next big thing, especially almost all of the more established bands in Germany and in general (the whole Century Media roster basically).
In my opinion Samael´s "Passage" and Morgoth´s "Odium" were and still are good records. Especially "Odium" is one the very very few albums from that time that moved away from the classic Death Metal sound while still retaining a unique and not some watered down trendy approach.
While "Feel Sorry..." is some kind of KJ worship I still think it sucks ass. _________________ Oh, what fun we have when we exist.

I didn't mind what Samael was doing up until "Eternal". After that they ran out of ideas. Sometimes I wonder what the band would come up with if they remained a BM act.
And if we're mentioning bands other than Thrash then there's plenty to choose from.
Paradise Lost with "One Second", Tiamat "Wildhoney" maybe wasn't so commercial but heading into that direction. "A Deeper Kind of Slumber" is what made me lose interest in the band. Maybe some of you will remember this video clip they made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAdyArZM1B8
I'm sure if it was Smashing Pumpkins then it would be a big hit on MTV. |

Again, I didn't say it's a shitty album, I actually like it a lot. It certainly fits the concept of wimping out though, as it obviously represents a huge change from the style of the earlier recordings. Same goes for Passage, which still remains a decent record with at least 2-3 really outstanding songs. _________________ Permabanned |
