Fans who get offended by artistic choices of bands deserve to be offended.

As for KD, I don't think he ever released an album which would be like that, so I'd just let it pass even if he releases bunch of more mediocrity.

I agree with the rest of your posting, but "Abigail II" was at least for me a total letdown.

Maybe not bad musically, but it ruins the magic of the original classic.

Being such a big fan I just don't like the direction his music took after The Spider's Lullabye (which in my book is the last classic album he did), things went downhill after he changed his make up and started wearing that dumb tube.

Absolutely.

I always viewed the Eye as the last classic KD album. Don't get me wrong, I love the Spider's Lullabye but they were a different band by that time.

I guess you're right here. I should have used the expression "last really good album".

If I remember correctly, the "Spider's Lullabye" was already announced in the booklet of "The Eye" - which would be 5 years in advance, so maybe these are a lot of "old" ideas. The album was delayed because of the MF-reunion and probably problems with Roadrunner.

Also, there were plans to record this album with the Mike Wead/Sharlee d'Angelo line-up. And as we all know, this line-up never achieved anything.

The puppet master is a great album, I really like it and consider it among the top KD works so far.

I think you're mistaking it with the booklet/innersleeve notes to one MF album (not sure if In The Shadows or Time) where -if memory serves me well, don't have my records here to check- he was addressing his band members in KD saying he'd soon join them to record TSL.

You're right, it's in the booklet of "In the Shadows":

A VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO:

Andy La Rocque, Snowy Shaw, Mike Wead and Sharlee d'Angelo for having the patience and understanding. This album is dedicated to you guys. I can't wait for us to start recording the next King Diamond LP "The Spider's Lullabye".

Apparently the reward for their "patience and understanding" was to have three of them kicked out of the band, seen as only LaRoque took part to the recordings of the album Laughing

Well in all fairness I seem to remember that at least D'Angelo was busy doing other bands at that time and Snowy had Notre Dame going so may be that's the reason.

And Mike Wead was in MEMENTO MORI. Wink

After that, the carousel of band-members only consisted of some random guys you never heard of.

Sure, Johnny-come-lately metal Danish twats who understand nothing of the genre love that album.

GMYSP was bad. Again, bad KD is better than 95% of all shit that gets pumped out today but it was a major step backwards from the Puppet Master. I don't want to see the increased presence of his wife on any of the supposed final/next 3 albums.

So fucking true, that annoying bitch was the last nail in the coffin. It's unbelievable to see how nefarious the influence of pussy may be for metal artists, look at that Acheron guy and those atrocious cover artworks he was forced to use just because it was his wife who painted them. Fuck women, metal needs virginity to be performed properly. (<-- sig please)
