Oh yeah, and recorded in a studio with about ten people present - KVLT status! _________________ ----------------

I have these on tape and they are pretty good;
Violent Attack- The Final Massacre
Infernal Slaughter- Rehearsalcoholic 2004
and also
Occult- Elegy for the Weak
and Force of Darkness |
You'll either love or hate the vocals (with multiple listens they grow on you... Crazy sounding!), but Unborn (uk) is extreme, apocalyptic Slayer worship from the 90's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ8e4I02LAs _________________ Helcaraxë - Epic Heathen Death Metal

Haunting the chapel really needs to be in this poll. Their best work ever. _________________ "she has no idea of good music but her ass is real tight." |

No one's mentioned their pioneering us of nazi aesthetics in mainstream metal? One of the best things they ever did. _________________

The version of black magic on live undead is a far superior. _________________

They only had 5 good years but in those 5 years they managed to outshine any contemporary metalband and every metalband of the 25 years that would follow.
Early and mid '80s Slayer is the ultimate example of metal as far as I'm concerned. |

I thought Insane (from Italy) was pretty great Show No Mercy worship, but some people don't like them. |

Show No Mercy, the album aged extremely well as far as I'm concerned. I admit I like even the post-Seasons stuff including God Hates Us All so I guess the term "fanboy" applies here. _________________ Thread derailed

Hell Awaits when I was a kid, definitely; but I like all of those first albums.
I started listening to Seasons in the Abyss again recently, really solid album. Maybe a bit more toned-down and accessable (and those 'groovy' riffs contributed to some of the worst trends in metal) but the songwriting is top notch. Black Album this definitely isn't.

| South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss are good albums. They aren't GREAT like the first few, but they were solid enough. Everything after that goes from passable to horrible, pretty much in the order it's released. At this point they're just another shitty "band" waaay past it's prime, piecing riffs together on Pro Tools in a studio instead of, you know, writing songs as a band. |

Put on Seasons today inspired by the thread and I like it. Some great songs on it. Obviously nowhere near the earlier stuff but still a great record. Dead Skin Mask is excellent. After that I really struggle with any of the releases.
I'd agree on RiB being over hyped as "the best thrash metal record". It's a killer record, but there really are a lot of other Thrash metal records that are as good, like Darkness Descends. _________________
