Brand new death metal band from Sweden. Just recorded a 4 track demo which can heard in full here: http://soundcloud.com/gutterinstinct

A cassette version will be made in the near future and when it's out I'll post information on it here. Until then it would be nice to hear some feedback from you guys.

Some constructive criticism, anyone?

Also - would you care to buy this if it was released on vinyl? We still haven't really decided on format, but it's leaning towards a tape...

I have no criticism to offer, just my opinion. I didn't like it much. Faith Junkies being my least favorite track.

I like the fact you didn't try to be just another ENTOMBED-clone, that's for sure and I guess one could say your sound leans more towards fellow death squad AEON but not so heavy on the DEICIDE soundalike pieces... Smile

I personally enjoy the LP format much, much more. I had tons of tapes in the early 90's but back then, that was more out of necessity than trend as it seems nowadays. Small covers, small sound etc. Not my thing!

An Entombed clone is something we really don't wish to be seen as so I'm glad you don't.

Thanks for the feedback!

Sounds really good in bits, a little 'busy' for me if I'm honest, and I'm not massively keen on the 'modern grind'-type of sound, but yeah, plenty to be chuffed with I think.

I recommend you have a listen to ND's "Mentally Murdered" and Terrorizer's "World Downfall" if only to hear how effectively grindcore and death metal can be mixed in a totally organic fashion. Anyone know of many bands doing that today? I was very impressed by the album Cardiac Arrest put out last year for that very reason.

I think it's decent, definitely detect a bit of newer Napalm Death in it. I'm not crazy about some of the groove parts but that's just personal preference. Also some of the vocal parts come off a little sing-songy or nursery rhymeish, which is a turnoff for me when it comes to death metal; when it doubt, mix up the rhythms more and don't feel obligated to use clean rhyme schemes all the time. That's a micro-criticism I guess but it is a pet peeve of mine with otherwise good bands.

Way too "bouncy" and groovy. Vocals are weak (both the gutturals and high pitched). Riffs are uninteresting. The guitar tone is kind of cool I guess. Not very good overall.

Honestly, it sounds like Hatebreed trying to play Death Metal.

A band's first demo should ALWAYS be a tape, that's just the way it is Smile
We'll record a 7" or a 12" later this year...

Interesting. I will say that for the most part it doesn't sound like typical Swedish DM, except for a few melodeath sounding parts, but It's kind of all over the place with the styles, the goofy groovy stuff that sounds like Pantera I could do without.

True, but I feel that a cassette would kinda cheapen how well the tracks were produced. When I think demo cassette releases, I think of pretty lo-fi recordings. Maybe just release this demo via Bandcamp (using Pay What You Want) and if it does well, press it on vinyl!
