Great post. Friesen would run circles around all modern tech bands, and even older classic bands such as Cryptopsy, Suffocation, and Gorguts would have a hard time keeping up with him. _________________

| Dark Tranquillity "The Gallery". Amazing album before the wimp-out. |

They've always been wimpy.
Windham Hell was a great find. |

Oh well... Can I have your opinion on Mozart, Bach and Beethoven too? |

Yep, I completely agree. Friesen and Leland are beyond underrated, they are almost completely unknown even in the underground scene.
I was lucky enough to find an original of the '88 demo tape. It's super horrible production, but you can tell he is really onto something interesting. A mix of bach, thrash and something altogether new. _________________ Witchhammer or die yourself: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9671 |

Exactly Mussorgsky! It's actually a 2 cd set of the omonymous piece. On the first it's just the band's version and on the second you can hear the band with an orchestra. Pretty original for 1996 I think... _________________ Pyosified Rotten to the Gore |

| Is it possible to get Eric Friesen's solo stuff anywhere now, or did they pretty much disappear when he died? |

One of the few metal versions of classical music that I like is Graf Spee's Self Destruction (based in Albeniz "Iberian Suite").

And there's also Cirith Ungol's version of Bach's Toccata & Fugue but I tend to skip that track, it's not bad but it takes away from the atmosphere of the rest of the album in my opinion. |

These were just uploaded yesterday. No views, haha!

I've seen the CD's around, but they were not pressed in big quantities so you might have trouble finding anything. _________________ Witchhammer or die yourself: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9671 |

I meant the CDs. Found them on Soulseek at least, but it would be cool to own them. Will definitely have to pick up some Windham Hell when I get back from vacation. |
