Especially ironic how he ended up |
It was interesting hearing all that coming from Euronymous' friends, instead of just Varg. It almost makes me believe his self defense story. |

Don't think there's much of a story to that pic, really. Both Manheim and Necrobutcher are from Langhus, which is just north of Ski where Euronymous comes from. That waiting booth is still there, though the Mayhem graffito has long since been painted over. Seen to the left here:

Here's something: I noticed a long time ago that while DMDS is recorded in E, "Live in Leipzig" is tuned a slight notch below Eb. At the time I figured that hey, they probably tuned down a half note back in the day but not in the studio. Now, when I looked up the Zeitz show from the same tour as Leipzig, they're suddenly in E.
Therefore: Unlikely scenario: Both the Euronymouse and the Necrobutcher tuned down a half note in Leipzig but not in Zeitz. Likely scenario: We've been listening to a slightly slow tape transfer of the Leipzig show since AAAAAAAAGES AGO.
So, does anyone here by any chance sit on a Leipzig live tape sourced from the one big E sent out back in '91 or so and could compare with the CD? Does anyone feel like checking that half second of Megadeth before "Deathcrush" to see if that's also a half note and a bit slower than the original? Does anyone really care? (Spoiler: For some reason I care.)
Coming soon: "Live in Leipzig" pitched back to the probably original E. _________________

Dead's vocals sound in the same pitch in both live recording, so I dont think thats the case. _________________ Good deals: dawid |

that's not sound logic. if the vocals were the same "pitch", dead would have been singing a minor second sharp, and, although the vocals are somewhat atonal, the effect would have been out of tune.
i think it's highly plausible the tape transfer was just slow. that's not brain surgery. probably happened. _________________ http://www.ugEXPLODE.com

| Or maybe they just tuned their instruments roughly by ear every time, that would also explain the differences. |

| I always thought Live in Liepzig sounded horrible. (Compared to say, Zeitz) Would like to hear it slightly faster than the original actually. |

I'll try to machine a re-tuned version of some Leipzig tune to see how it sounds. Expecting that it will BLOW OUR MINDS to hear it a half note higher.
In the meantime, does this gig list for the Dead/Euro/HH/NB lineup look complete to you guys? Not sure about the Annaberg/Zeitz dates as both shows are consistently said to have happened on nov. 24 1990.
Oslo (Bootleg) 1989 w/ Darkthrone (if anyone knows a date for this Darkthrone show, please share it with the class)
Jessheim feb. 3. 1990 w/ Red Harvest, Death Mission, Minas Tirith
Sarpsborg feb. 28. 1990 w/ So Much Hate, Slayer mag benefit show
Annaberg-Buchholz ca. nov 24. 1990 w/ Carcinoma, Wodan, Sarkophag
Grisdorf/Zeitz ca. nov. 24 1990
Leipzig (Eiskeller) nov. 26. 1990 w/ Manos, Eminenz
Izmir, dec. 9. 1990 w/ Hazy Hill, IDEA
Any notes re dates, support bands, venue names much appreciated. _________________

Yeah, and this: That mystery song the band plays in that old rehearsal video with Dead cavorting about in the sun - the one Emperor knocked off that one riff from for that song on "Anthems..." - does anyone know if a title ever existed for this? Is this what I've seen referred to as "Dawn of the black hearts"? _________________

| I would be surprised if that had ever happened... Gleisdorf is in Austria, and I had some tape trader friends there... so I guess it's safe to say that this is bullshit. |

People seem to be saying the track was called (Of?) Sodomy And War. _________________ §:-«l |
