It's not just the production, the songwriting changed enormously after Barnes left. The first four albums relied on groovy riffs mainly whereas after The Bleeding and Vile especially everything became way too brutal and fast for the sake of it. |
oh, yeah, agree completely. i actually like the first four albums quite a bit, whereas i just stick up for some of the later stuff because it gets ignored because it isn't as good.
for me, they peaked with the bleeding, my favorite c.c. song is pulverized.
the corpsegrinder stuff is, as you say, fast for the sake of being fast, and it is a shame because their best stuff was almost always the more groovy mid-paced stuff. _________________ my greatest sin was to flee from happiness by searching for it. - st. augustine |

That's also the memory I have. I think there was quite some bad blood between them back then. |
He was fired from the band because he was spending too much time on SFU. | that's what i heard as well, apparantly he also used songs that were meant for CC as SFU songs....

OT, this has been a common problem since 1991-92, it has much to do with the advent of cds and their lengthier playing time compared to vinyl. Bands always need to record at least 10-12 songs or more to fill the capacity of a digital disc, which of course results in fillers, unnecessary cover songs/bonus tracks etc. Take an album like Fear of the Dark for example, it would be much stronger if it only included 7-8 songs instead of 12. _________________ Thread derailed

...I think it was more along the lines of he wanted to sing in the style he does in SFU with the CC material, and the rest of the band wanted to get more techincal and faster... there were some of the vile tracks with Barnes doing the vocals and the band wasnt happy with them... It was during the making of that album that he got the boot

So very true. I still love Fear of the Dark though, although cutting a few tracks would definitely have improved the album. _________________ Reliable people: nexxxion, s.charlach |

1. From here to eternity
2. Fear is the key
3. The apparition
4. Weekend warrior
5. Fear of the Dark
I would have laughed so hard with a MCD featuring a track-list like this. The rest of the songs are good, with some killer moments ("The fugitive", "Judas be my guide", "Childhood's end"). Still I prefer 'No prayer...', though. _________________ Great deals with: Orionized, DEVORADOR DE PLAGAS, Mental Funeral, MEDICAL_WASTE

I wholeheartedly disagree. The title track is a true Maiden classic and probably the best song off that album. _________________ Thread derailed

The last CC album I listened to from beginning to end is "The Bleeding". Never heard any of the albums in their entirety with Corpsegrinder on vocals. And it has nothing to do with CC having a new singer. I lost interest in the band after "The Bleeding" was released and before Barnes was kicked out. Perhaps I should give them a chance judging by some responses in this thread.
"Tomb of the Mutilated" has always been my fave album by the band. I do enjoy their debut album as well once in a blue moon. _________________

Always I see Fear of the Dark mentioned as the encyclopedia example of filler suffering album. Yet when it comes to pointing out which tracks should get removed, everyone mentions different ones, except title one.
I'd rather have 13 track album with 9 good tracks than say, 9 track with 7 good ones. (Or whatever you get the point). For me how good album is based on how much good content it has and how good the good content is and I don't care much for bad parts. That especially matters on the black metal/ambient hybrid releases. Obviously, that doesn't mean I think bands should put whatever shit they spawned on records in hope of finding a pearl in the mud, I only think often the complains about fillers are overdone.
Oh and I love Fear is the Key. |

Agreed. Sure, it is overplayed and the legions of kids who claim to be into Maiden but really only know this song and two or three others are annoying, but that doesn´t make it any less of a brilliant track.
But this thread was about CC... _________________ Reliable people: nexxxion, s.charlach |

I voted for Kill but I haven't listened to most of the listed albums at great length so I couldn't really pass judgment on them. Kill just has solid riffs and good production. I liked Fisher's voice a lot better in Monstrosity I have to say.
And the Bleeding is my actual favorite CC record. _________________

Gallery of Suicide for me, but all of them are listenable.
BTW what's up with Chris Barnes? Punching that guy from Cattle Decapitation, looking all bald & skinny, babbling about the alien mystical cannabinoid agenda... _________________ Geißel des Fleisches - Bis aufs Blut gequält |

Will Barnes be a part of the CC's 25th Anniv tour this year?
SHOULD he be?
It would be nice to have him do some of his era's songs.... _________________ We Are Satan's Generation And We Don't Give A Fuck! |
