Bands who you think achieved new levels with their music in 2012.
For me:
Tietanblood – Woven Black Arteries: Everything is much more focused, intense and darker than before. All their works stand on their own in terms of quality, but they have definitely evolved their concept to something very special.
Mgla - With Hearts Towards None: Mgla has really achieved mastery here. I am consistently returning to this album and finding it better than before.
Herpes – Awakening Of A Sleeping Madness: insane Autopsy/Celtic Frost worship from France. The first demo was great, but this kills!
Impeity – Ravage & Conqueror: This album has absolutely blown my mind away. An incredible achievement and easy vote for best album of the year.
Dødsengel should probably be on this list as well but I have yet to check out their full back catalogue. _________________

ANTEDILUVIAN was the first that popped in my head. Cervix AND Logos
VASSAFOR even better than the killer MMX tape that was their peak
VENUS STAR's last demo tape. Killer stuff, catchier than ever before
WITCHRIST TGT which is way better than Beheaded IMHO. It's at the same time more Death Metal and Doomier
Otherwise I disagree concerning MGLA and Teitanblood. I still prefer "Presence" and "Purging Tongues" _________________ DISJECTA MEMBRAE plays Vomitive Doom

I hardly follow any particular band these days and I don't anticipate new releases. Everything has already been done and most bands can't come up with original material. But one band that really deserves attention (in my opinion) is Pseudogod.
I know that they only have a demo and some splits under their belt but their 2012 debut LP took me by surprise. There was some 'hype' around this band (and I use the word hype loosely here) and I thought that their debut album would be very generic and typical and the hype will die.
I don't think there was a new release this year (or last year) which got the same amount of play time as "Deathwomb Catechesis" did. _________________

The newest Anatomia LP is my favorite thing they've released thus far. _________________ http://churchofdisgust.bandcamp.com - ROTTEN DEATH METAL

Desolate Shrine - New album is phenomenal. One of the better releases I've heard in a while. Easily trumps most (if not all) albums of 2012.
Desecresy - An improvement from their last album, solid enough stuff, though still not my favorite (current) Finnish dm band or anything like that.
Hooded Menace - Not a big fan of these guys, but their latest album easily
trumps their previous works.
Antediluvian - These guys seem to get better and better with each release, the split with Adversarial is by far their best material. Massive release.
Anatomia - Love their Autopsy influenced stuff, but their latest album is so much darker and more "serious". I love it. _________________

The Embrace of Thorns was 2011 but they really stepped things up
Second Antediluvian, Witchrist, Anatomia, Vassafor as well.
Adversarial'sside of the Antediluvian split was stellar. Expecting their next output to be the equivalent of having my head fucking crushed to splinters by a car.
Also I thought the new Revenge was their best work by far.
The newer Teitanblood didn't grab me lile Seven Chalices did. _________________ http://www.last.fm/user/ngadke |

Hard to say if Mgla did their really best material up to date now. I have liked all their material previously already. It's up there in the top what comes to albums that came out this year anyways.
WOLFNACHT - Project Ordensburg
Not sure that does this one belong to last years or this years albums (it came out around when the year changed) but this is what I have listened even more than Mgla. Absolute modern classic. _________________

Revenge
Pseudogod
Deiphago
Antediluvian
and maybe Power From Hell (I guess this was a very late 2011 release technically...) _________________ If you are a false don't marry! Girlfriend is ok but only destructing anus from behind!!! - Fat Dagon

The last Faustcoven album is their best. This band seems to getting better with every album.
Also Vomitor and Hellbringer released their best material to date. |

Really? It's a good album for sure but nowhere close to being as good as Bleeding the Priest or Neutron Hammer 7". _________________

I like every Vomitor release but The Escalation is their darkest and sickest output ever. The only complaint about the album is that vocals are too low in the mix. |
