If you ask most metalheads today what Viking Metal is... 9 times out of ten the response is going to be Amon Amarth sadly (no offense to Amon fans)
True pagan/viking metal lies in the works of Hammerheart, Twilight, Blood fire death etc... i think we can all agree on that |

Mentioning Homowar in the same sentence as Bathory is unfortunate, but Hammerheart, Twilight, and Blood, fire, death are all as essential as the Bathory's s/t. It's just great uplifting music especially Hammerheart which makes up for the Satanic atmosphere and primal riffs of Quorthon's earlier bm work with riffs and epic songs that would inspire countless bands later in the metal scene. _________________

My apologies, but that is what was said to me...
I have never liked them since reading in the Mercyful Fate newsletter about how they (Manowar) fucked them over. |

I bought BFD when it was released. I prefer viking Bathory.
Can you explain that? |
I don't know why you would need an explanation? You bought "BFD" when it was released; it only means you bought it when it was released. I can't really explain anything about it.
If you are implying that "BFD" is the first Bathory album you ever heard but you prefer the 'viking' style Bathory over their Satanic image then I have news for you. Only the first 3 albums were Satanic in nature. "Blood Fire Death" was the beginning of 'viking' Bathory. _________________

I bought the debut first, then Hammerheart and then Under the Sign of the Black Mark.
Never had any problems with that. Sorry to crush your thesis. |

Thanks for the info bro. Cool story.
Do you have any Iron maiden albums in your collection? In which order did you buy them?
How about Metallica?
Did you have any problems with any of them?
I have no thesis you're just trying to make one up or make it look like I had one. I was talking about people that I have met not people in general. I've never met you or talked to you. Read my first post in this thread.
And don't take things too seriously or try to make a point, it's only the internet bud.

Yeah, am I even arguing? No worries, my friend.
BTW: Only two songs on BFD are "Viking", the rest is stil pure Black Thrash, musically and lyrically. |

Early Enslaved, too!
Bathory was always great, but got greater when he started listening to Wagner and Bach. |
Heavy Load already had 'viking' lyrics on their debut album in 1978. The song "Son of the Northern Light".
| Quote: | Thor is riding the sky again
Hear the thunder feel the pain
When we hear the heathen cry
We draw our swords
And the Christians will die,
Feel the pain, feel the pain
Tonight
The pope in his blood will crawl
Jesus' head is going to roll
The Christian warriors raped the earth
And I've been crying since my birth
Feel the pain, feel the pain
Valhalla I think I am coming
I think I am coming back to you
We're coming from the land
Of the midnight sun
Blue eyes blond hair you'd better run
The wind is whispering tales of gone
Of how we fought, and how we won
Feel the pain
The northern light is printed in my soul
I don't think that I will die old
The nature has given me my strength
Sweet is the Viking's revenge
Feel the pain
Valhalla I think I am coming |

^ many trad. metal bands had less or more viking references. Battleaxe, Legend, Faithful Breath, Blitzkrieg, finally Manowar. The theme probably wouldn't have been so massively used if not for Bathory.

This, I don't get why people call this album 'viking metal', basing on what, 2 songs and intro? |
